Yikes, my husband and our 3 year old leave in a week for a (spontaneous) 6 night trip to Honolulu and we need an inexpensive hotel or condo, preferably a suite with a fridge. Your ideas, insights or well wishes are greatly appreciated. We were hoping to pay no more than $ 60/night, am I completely delusional?

Are you looking for a nice hotel or would you settle for a lessor quality hotel and/or site? I've heard good reviews about using Priceline.com and MAYBE you can get something at vrbo.com, like a last minute cancellation. I also looked at hicentral.com in the rental section, sometimes there are condos available.

You are not delusional, but you will be hard pressed to find a suite. I second the priceline idea. I checked bidding fortravel just now and it looks like the Raddison Prince Kuhio and the Sheraton Princess Kauilani are being sold for the time you are looking for for between 50-60/night. That does not include taxes and resort fees (I think). You could always request a minifridge, I usually do and sometimes the hotel don't charge for this, check first. We have stayed at the Sheraton Princess Kauilani a few times but not with priceline and like the location, it is great value for the $$$. I second the recommendations of priceline and perhaps vrbo.com - I say perhaps because sometimes it takes the owners a day or two to respond and there may not have enough time to make the necessary arrangements. I would not count on getting a suite.

I met someone that stayed in one of the Ohana (?) hotels for $35 a night. Definately deals out there you just want to make sure you are not sacrificing too much. Some times the deals are too far off the beaten path meaning long trecks to the beach. I am jealous though spot a whale for me!!!

Thanks to YOU, we found an amazing deal at the Doubletree, thru priceline for only $ 55/night! You made me a true believer...through perserverence a stroke of kindness, we found a great rate!

Well you have to come on here and tell us how it was. Often times these hotels from priceline offer similar promotions directly throughout the year. This very well could be a hotel we all should keep a look out for. I am sick with jealousy here!!! You are going to see whales this time of year. Hey, just read that the paved hike to Makapu lighthouse is an excellent whale look out spot. Don't forget to peruse the rants section for Oahu sights. It is helpful.

That is great Joan! I think that priceline should be paying me for all the times I recommend using them to people. I told my Dad who flys to Asia about once every month or so and now he uses them all the time. I am not familiar with the Doubletree but something tells me it is at the beginning of Waikiki near the Ilikai etc... If you check www.biddingfortravel.com it will give you a hotel list for Waikiki and there is usually hotel reviewa by priceline users and a link to the Hotel website. I am a fanatical planner so I usually check this out when I use them. I am so happy you did well, have a super trip!

WOW! For fun I just did what I told you to do (checked out biddingfor travel reviews). The hotel itself sounds average but one poster states that as it is a sister hotel (Doubletree & Hilton) you as a guest at the Doubletree should have use of all facilities at tthe Hilton Hawaiian Village!!!!!That is sure worth the 55/night if you ask me! I'd be hanging out at the Village a lot, for sure. Again, have a great time, Aloha
