Cheap San Fransisco Hotel

Hi:

Can anyone recommend a cheap hotel in San Fransisco?

I arrive a day before my friend can put me up and I need a room for one night.

I will have a car so price is more important to me than location.

many thanks
Andrew

exitinfo.com has some great deals for
SF. I have used the printable coupons
many times with success. Vagabond Inn
is usually a good deal and includes
free parking.

Just how cheap do you want to go? I stayed at the Adelaide Inn (I think I actually got it from a Fodor's guide), It was smack in the middle of San Fran, and I think a double room was $50 or $60. It's tuck away up a side alley, but our cab driver knew exactly where it was. It's really basic--B&W TV that didn't work, shared bathroom, a dead cockroach in the corner. But if you're looking for cheap and location, you can't beat it.

Please know that some of the very cheapest hotels in SF are in pretty bad areas. You have to be careful that you are not jeopardizing safety. If you have a car anyway you might want to think about Millbrae, S. SF or Daly City--around SFO but it puzzles me as to why you would go to the expense of renting a car and then try to stay at a bargain basement hotel. You don't need a car in San Francisco.

We like the Columbus Motor Inn on Columbus. 3 star from AAA, free parking and sits between Fisherman's Wharf and North Beach. Rooms start at $80/night I think.
