We will be renting an apartment in NYC (midtown) for the month of May. We will have the car but not want to use it (we are on our way from Florida to Alaska). Anyone know of a garage for a month's parking that won't cost us a fortune? Garaging it is almost like renting another hotel room for the car, but no we won't consider outdoor parking for it.

I don't have the names of any places, but if you go west from midtown towards the Hudson River, you'll find prices a bit less expensive than the midtown area...and the closer to the river, the less expensive it will be.

I don't have the specific name but I park regulalry on W. 38th Street between 8th and 9th. It's the best rate I've found in the area for daily indoor parking and if you don't mind the fact that they close at 11PM it's a great deal. I believe monthly should be around $230-240. Not sure whether that includes the sales and parking taxes (which run about 18% in NYC). The comment about places getting cheaper closer to the river is correct although many of those are lots in the 10th Avenue area. If you plan to get the car in and out at night on occasion you may find that area to be a bit creepy late at night. I've never had a problem there but park closer in for the few extra $$ it costs.

There are lots for undr 200 dollars a month on 61st & west end; put a canvass over it, it is warm in may. Just curious why you wont park it in a well-secured lot when they have idiots moving your car all day long in indoor lots. Maybe you should rethink this position.

Thanks for the suggestions. In answer to that last question, however, I have a very good car with an excellent finish. I always keep my car in a garage. Maybe one month of sun, exposure, and acid rain wouldn't be the ruin of it, but I recently sold a 10 year old car that still had a perfect showroom finish because I take care of it. Just picky I guess. And I was hoping that if I parked a car in a garage for a month letting them know I wouldn't be using it, it would be parked in the back somewhere not moved daily. Am I being naive? I'm not concerned about the late night closure or the "scary" neighborhood as I really doubt that I will use the car at all.
