Charleston to Asheville NC. Cool stops, eats?

We will be driving from Charleston to Asheville the morning of Oct. 25. Looking for ideas to break up the drive. Any suggestions for things to see, or EAT would be helpful. Thinking of someplace small, easy to get to. Would consider Columbia for a great breakfast/lunch joint. Thanks guys.

Stop in Saluda and have some BBQ in town. Just off of I26.

Newberry is really pretty. I don't get up that way much, but I can tell you don't go to Maurice's. Too much hate-black-people memorabilia. Just mean.

Ditto,Sue. Maurice's trades in hate.
If you love a good milkshake, try The New Peach Stand just off I-77 at the Tega Cay exit.

I think that milkshake would be a bit off the track--close to Charlotte.

I like eating in downtown Greenville but it would be a tad bit (just a dog leg) out of your way. Lots of restaurant options, a nice place to stroll and you could scout out for the little bronze mice.

If you are familiar with the children's book, Goodnight Moon, the mice are waiting to be discovered.

CYA, I love downtown Greenville. In the last few years they've reviatalized downtown. Just a few blocks, but several places to eat and shop. I can't of anything I'd enjoy more between Asheville and Charleston.

I don't disagree, but do think about Saluda. Cute BBQ place, and just off of I26.
