Charleston SC Doubletree or Charleston Place?

If anyone is familiar with both these properties, which would be the better choice, if the prices were comparable? Are they both truly in the Historic District?

Thanks!

there is no comparision! Charleston Place is the nicest hotel in the historic/downtown... accessible to everything. if you really want to splurge, I also suggest you dine at the restaurant in the hotel, the Charleston Grill. Charleston Place is owned by the Orient Express Hotel chain which represents only upscale properties. enjoy your trip... hope you're also planning on exploring outside of the historic district!!

You cannot go wrong at Charleston Place. My only gripe was that there were no coffee makers in the rooms, no place in the lobby to get a cup to bring up, you had to get coffee from room service ($4.50 cup? I don't think so!) So we went over to Starbucks down the street and brought coffee back early every morning! But otherwise, fabulous!

Charleston Place offers (at least they did when we went) lots of "packages". For very little extra we had dinner at Charleston Grill included plus upgraded room to Concierge level which included a great breakfast, afternoon tea and evening desserts in their special lounge. Look into it!! You are truly in the historic distoric (there's even a neat church in the parking lot).

But has anyone stayed at the Doubletree? An employee at Charleston Place said rooms in our affordable price range ($150) had yet to be renovated - that gave me a scare.
