We've had good luck with both the Andrew Pinckney Inn and the Meeting Street Inn. Both are smaller properties, almost like a B&B, in terms of fewer amenities, but both have clean, comfortable rooms, great locations, and very reasonable rates when we've stayed there.

Ditto the don't stay in Mt. Pleasant.
Ditto the Andrew Pinckney. I think it is the best deal in downtown.
Also, Indigo Inn, King Charles BW, and the Days Inn. All excellent location and moderately priced.
I love the Doubletree but it runs around $100 more per night (on average) the the AP.

BeckyTX,
I don't know why some people are telling you not to stay in Mt. Pleasant. It's NOT inconvenient! It's about 7-10 minutes JUST over the bridge, and a beautiful, new bridge at that. There is a very nice walking lane on the bridge, and with it comes phenomenal views. A very popular pastime for many. I think you and your husband would enjoy walking the bridge. And Mt. Pleasant is lovely.
When is the wedding? The tall ships will be docking in Charleston in a few days for a maritime festival. They are spectacular!
It's e-z-p-z to get a taxi from Mt. Pleasant to Charleston. Taxi's in Charleston are not very nice and I wouldn't recommend using one, other than a Charleston Black Cab http://www.charlestonblackcabcompany.com/
They are pricey - you'll pay $30 to go from Mt. Pleasant to Charleston, but it will be in style! It's either that or calling somewhere else and you may find yourself riding in a cab that somebody lives in. I say splurge on the Charleston Black Cab. They are exactly like the black London taxi's.

Well, there are two different people asking questions in this thread. One has a wedding in MT. Pleasant and the other we haven't heard back from.
I say "don't stay in Mt Pleasant UNLESS you have a need to. You can stay in charleston and have pleasant walks in town without worrying about parking, etc."
If the wedding is in MtPleasant, stay there if you want--or not.
Yes, Mt. Pleasant is fine/lovely/not far/but you have to park, etc.
We were responding to different "needs".

There is nothing wrong with Mt. Pleasant.
However the majority of people don't come to Charleston to visit Mt.Pleasant so I think it is bad advice to tell someone to take a $30 cab each way and stay in Mt.Pleasant.
$60 is a lot of money to add to the price of a hotel room when a person could just stay downtown.

I didn't advise her to take a $30 cab each way. I was responding to her question asking how much a cab would be.
<I wonder if she uses this cab company for the tea tours? ;o)>
Very funny. No it's not.
You two make quite a pair.

Thanks for the different perspectives. I did hijack this thread from the OP so I understand the confusion.
I think I get the picture though...I can find public means of transportation, but it may not be cheap. The wedding is not until late October, so I'll post a report after we go.
