Chadds Ford

My husband and I are planning a weekend getaway at the end of July. Any reccomendations for Hotels/Inns and resteraunts in the Chadds Ford area. We are planning on visiting the museum there-anything we should see?

I've enjoyed visits to Longwood Gardens near Kennett Square, PA and Winterthur outside Wilmington. The Nemours Mansion is also in the area. I believe that Longwood Gardens has some special evening programs in the summer - illuminations and occasional fireworks. It's been years but we once had a wonderful Sunday brunch at the Hotel Du Pont in Wilmington.

Tami,
As a resident of the area, I know of a good inn [although I have not stayed personally]: Fairville Inn,
telephone: (610) 388-5900. Very well located. A restaurant that is excellent is the Dilworthtown Inn [sorry do not have phone number handy] but you will need reservations. Museums include: Winterthur, Longwood Gardens [fabulous!], Hagley, Nemours, Brandywine River Museum.
This is a very pretty part of our state.
Enjoy your stay!

My wife's family is from that area. We understand that the N. C. Wyeth Studio (near Chadds Ford) has been restored and is now open to the public. In Centerville, DE, you will find Buckley's Tavern offers good food.
Down U.S. 1, just outside Kennett Square, is an excellent Italian restaurant. Its name escapes me, but any of the locals can point it out; it's north of Kennett, on the east side of the road. The Brandywine Inn, near Lenape, is also quite good. To see the area at its best, get off the main roads and explore the smaller, winding roads. The drive from the Lenape bridge downstream to Chadds Ford is particularly picturesque. Be sure to drive from West Chester to Kennett on #51, via Lenape. Explore side roads off to either side.

I consulted my "resident expert." The name of that Italian place outside Kennett Square is Hugo's.

In case you go to BrandyWine area again,
my recommendation is the White Wing Farm
B&B in West Chester, Pa.
Its incredible, delicious breakfasts,
qie & secluded. It is about $130 per nite & worth it!
