Central Park and museum- NYC question

HI All! We are coming to Manhattan for a long weekend, leaving this Sat and wondered about the Central Park boats that seem to be available for a little paddling around. Does anyone know how expensive these are and if paddling around is a complete waste of tourist dollars. We've been to NYC several times and are looking for something different to do this trip. Also, I can't seem to find any museums open on Mondays- is that common? Thanks!

The Museum of Natural History (and the Rose Center for Earth and Space), MOMA and the Guggenheim are all open on Mondays.

In my experience when I get to Central Park after walking, which means walking a LOT, the last thing I want to do is use my legs for paddling. I find it much more enjoyable to bring a bedsheet or towel to sit on, enjoy the sun and watch others do the work.

There are rowboats (never seen a true paddle boat in the Park) available to rent. Not sure what the cost is, but I don't think it would be a waste of tourist dollars--you won't see much of the park necessarily, but it will be very relaxing and fun!

Many museums are closed on Mondays, that is true.

We had a great time doing this one day last spring. Saw lots of turtles on the rocks, watched a professional bridal gown advertismen being shot at one end of the pond, enjoyed the skyline, and had lots of laughs watching others learn how to row.

I recommend bringing a picnic with you. Either eat it as you float, or afterwards on the grass. A very relaxing time, and a great NYC memory.

Thank you all! We can row and it should be alot more fun and less windy/wavy than it is on Buzzards Bay! Price isn't bad either! We went one winter and skated with the kids at the Wolf--- rink in the Park and the views were fabulous too! Can't wait! And since Hubbie loves the Guggenheim, this weekend will be a winner.
