Central Park

I'll be staying in the 79thStreet area and would love to know if I can walk across -or take a bus - Central Park to the Metropolitan Museum. How long a walk would it be?

Thanks.

Please walk through the Park and not through the transverse road.

You will want to spend a lot of time in the park, walking it just for the pleasure and not to get to a particular place. One of my favorite places in the world is Shakespeare's Garden and surrounds. I need a yearly fix of Central Park!!

If you want you can hop on the 79th St crosstown bus.

If you want to walk figure it will take about 20 minutes. Do NOT take the transverse (car road) - which is dangerous of walkers. Get a map of the paths in the park from the central park conservancy so you can se what route to take (they are quite circuitous.)

You might try and print out a map of the park, so you can stop and see some of the special areas, like Strawberry Field, tribute to John Lennon. Also if you have time there is a spectacular formal garden, north of The Met, around 106th St, I think. You will also go by The Castle and The Needle, both easy to find on your walk.

Hope the weather continues to be good for your trip.
