Cell phone use in Hawaii

I will be visiting Hawaii in a few months and I am just wondering if I will be able to use my cell phone on Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island. I have Voice Stream. Voice Stream says that I should receive service throughout the state, but I just wanted to make sure. If you have Voice Stream, and have been to Hawaii, please advise as to whether you received good service. Thanks.

No matter who your service provider is, there are a few areas that are out of range: mostly the backs of valleys. You'll be ok the rest of the time.

I live here and have not had problems with my Voicestream phone anywhere except Lanai. Have not gone into any really isolated spots, however.

We just returned from a weekend in Kauai. My wife has Voicestream service and the only place she could use her phone was in Lihue. She has been able to use her Voicestream phone throughout most of Maui and in the Hilo and Kona parts of the Big Island.

I have Verizon (personal) and ATT (business) cell phones. Kauai is no problem for ATT, a few no-service areas for Verizon. I haven't had any problems on Maui or the Big Island.

I too have VoiceStream and I had trouble with my phone in Kauai. On the other hand, I only tried to make calls from our condo in Kapaa. Like someone mentioned, it might be better in Lihue.

Maui, like Oahu, is very urban and you won't have any problem. Kauai will be a problem as will some parts of the Big Island.
