Message: Planning a trip to Alaska in mid-August. Driving from Anchorage to Seward, later on Valdez, Fairbanks and Denali. Will appreciate any advice as far as cell phone coverage in these areas.

We were in Homer, Seward, Anchorage and Denali a few weeks ago and coverage seemed to be pretty good in most places. It was surprisingly good in Denali National Park - I thought for sure we'd lose it there. Some places along the road on the Kenai Peninsula were spotty, and it went out a couple of times in Anchorage around the airport, but otherwise I found it pretty reliable. For your reference, my account is with BellSouth. Can't help you with Fairbanks or Valdez though.

Just returned and I was everywhere you mentioned but Valdez and the cell worked. My carrier is AT&T

You better check with your carrier. Voicestream had no service from Anchorage to Seward when I was there recently.

From Denali to Seward, we hardly ever had time without service. Calls were very clear too. I'm with Cellular One.
