We will be in Bostin mid-June with two teens. We like to try local non-chain non-steak places. Would like something unique, italian and/or fish would be great.

Where will you be staying and what's your budget?

For italian, the North End is the obvious answer.

There are also many small restaurants in the South End and most of them are quite unique.

Henrietta's Kitchen at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge with outside seating. A legal seafood resto and patio sits several feet away.

how about both? try Daily Catch in the North End for Italian with an emphasis on seafood.

Not sure about steak places, but here are some other suggestions: Delux on Clarendon Street is kind of low-budget yet funky with good food and a lot of character. Orinico on Shawmut Ave is Venezuelan (www.orinocokitchen.com), Charlie's Sandwich Shoppe on Columbus is great for breakfast (closed Sundays), you can get Ethiopian at Red Addis on Tremont St. in the S. End as well (www.addisredsea.com) - here you eat without utensils - it's good stuff. For Italian in the North End, try Antico Forno (www.anticofornoboston.com) or Monica's (www.monicasfoods.com/restaurant.htm). Also check these sites:

Teens might like Regina's pizza; we loved it, and it's been there forever, something like 80 years. Also, anywhere in the North End is great for Italian. We liked Legal Sea Foods even though it's a chain.

I agree with the Pizzeria Regina post above - the original one is in the N. End at 11 1/2 Thacher St. There are others, but they're part of a chain. Also, I had suggested Monica's in my first post, and then re-read that you're looking for casual dining - Monica's is a little bit upscale, so you probably wouldn't want that if you're looking for casual.
