Castle in the Clouds, alternative

I do not want to go to visit Castle in the Clouds. I wonder if there is an alternative that is a little high and drivable nearby (i.e. no hiking)?

Thanks in advance.

What about Cannon Mountain Tramway in Franconia - ride the gondola to the top.
New London NH may be too far from your planned route but it's a pretty college town with some nice views although not as dramatic as overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee (haven't been to the Castle in years). Nearby you can drive up Mt. Kearsarge (it's a small mountain) from the Wilmot side to Winslow State Park which has a nice view looking out toward Lake Sunapee. Large parking and picnic area near the top.

In the Moultonborough area, one of our favorite drives is from Tamworth to Center Sandwich. This is not at a high elevation but might not be as congested with foliage traffic as other areas. If you like hard liquor, the Tamworth Distillery is a beautiful building with a fun tasting (they'll let you share and the stuff is potent) with interesting view of the distilling area. Although you are at the best of the mountains (Sandwich Range) there's an occasional interesting view. We sort of wander the area (don't be surprised if you encounter a bear) and like eating at the Corner House Inn in Center Sandwich. Be aware the Sandwich Fair is Columbus Day weekend but it's not a huge one. I expect however that the road from Moultonborough to Meredith is going to be very slow going if it's a weekend.

Thank you very much.

If the weather is good, we will make this stop. At the moment, the weather forecast is not great so I am not too sure but I will remember this. We plan to make many more trips to this region in the future.
