Casting my Christmas movie for 2012

DH and I want to spend one amazing Christmas...like something from a 1940s movie. Where would you suggest?

Cast of characters:
DH and me.
Friendly innkeeper with a classic flair.
Interesting assortment of convivial guests.
An amazing chef.
Shopkeepers in a holiday spirit.
Caroling villagers.

Sets:
Classy lodge or inn oozing Christmas charm
A big comfy room with a view.
A roaring fire.
A quaint town with one-of-a-kind shops.
Gourmet restaurants.
A little white church.
A town square decked with lights and trees.
Woods dappled with snow.
Maybe a lake
Trails for hiking
Sleigh rides.

Wardrobe:
Not a blue jean in sight!

Budget:
Not an issue, since we'll only do it once.

Location:
East, West, North, South, USA, or not.

Seneca Falls NY was the inspiration for Bedford Falls in "Its a Wonderful Life"... the Finger Lakes offer all of the romance of the Holidays...

Sound of Music? Salzburg, or some Bavarian locale.

Not sure, but do let us know where you end up. I'd like to be an extra.

Maybe Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland can put on a play.

Sounds like Vermont would be the place to be. But maybe I'm thinking of the movie White Christmas ...

Look at the Inn by the Sea in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. It' 15 minutes to Portland, which has many good restaurants and lots of Christmas charm. The hotel is lovely and has rooms with fireplaces. http://www.innbythesea.com/ This area certainly has its share of little white churches in a variety of denomination. The Portland airport (PWM) is only 15 minutes away. No lake, but a terrifice view of the Atlantic. It is located on nice stretch of road with plenty of fields, geese, wild turkeys, and deer.

Thanks. I'll check these out. I really do mean to have a much better Christmas next year than I did this year, so we're going somewhere!

Look in Vermont. There's the Woodstock Inn, or maybe someplace in Stowe.
