Car Tire Chains at Yosemite???
I'll be going to Yosemite next week and was told by the Awahanee that I must have car tire chains with me when I enter the park. The rental car companies don't have them so am I stuck buying them? Do I really have to have them?? Is there a place to rent them? Hope someone has advice. I'm leaving tomorrow.

I've gone thru this before..it's so hard, cuz you'll be buying chains for a car you won't keep. What I do is buy them from a chain store...preferably one you have at home or are likely to see again after you leave Yosemite. That way, you can return them if they haven't been used.
If you do use them, sell them on Craigslist!

The prediction for snow is no greater than 60%. Are you a gambler? Ha!
Go with lcuy's advice and buy them at a walmart or other large "chain" store definitely a place that has a liberal return policy.
I don't know about renting chains. I've never actually seen a chain rental place. Imagine the liability in renting chains.

Thanks Lucy...that's probably what I need to do. I know the forecast is for snow, but lower elevations...main roads...have just been getting rain. What a pain....my fear is that they'll check to make sure I have them.

Well I'm back from Yosemite...loved it. Anyway, you can rent car tire chains from several places in Mariposa. We rented form Sierra Auto...about $10 a day. The Stage Stop also rents them. Just call ahead so you know if they have your size. By the way...it did not snow while we were there, but I guess they could get a sudden snow up there until the first of May.
