utahtea,
The digital cameras I've used al=re all Sonys...an FD-95, a FD-97, and now a Dsc-F717. The two FD models were 2.1 MP and the 717 is 5 MP. Sony is kind of losing me now though. If I were to buy a camera today it would probably be a Panasonic FZ-20. It seems, by all accounts to be a great camera with a big zoom lens and image stabilazation to eliminate the need for a tripod. The only disappointment (not a deal killer by any means) is that you need an adaptor to use filters. The Sonys I've used all have threaded lenses that take filters w/o an adaptor. A polarizing filter is a must in the west and the caribbean to bring out the wonderful blue of the sky in the west and the sea in the tropics. I've been accused of overusing the polarizing filter but, I wear polarized sunglasses so that's pretty much the way it looks to me.

My set up at pbase is just their most basic page. I'm not a computer guru just an avid photo hobbyist so I like to keep things simple. If you were to load pictures onto pbase, the pages would look pretty much like mine. You can try out a free account to get your feet wet without commitment.

If you want to have some fun try typing in some Utah attractions (like "Zion" for instance)into pbase's seacrh engine (no need to be a member to do this I don't think). Keep it to one word though since the search mode is pretty primitive. There are some pretty great shots of Utah (and lots of other places too) on pbase. It is a fun and inexpensive place to share your images without and ads or spam ever. I've been a member since pbase was a simple photo enthusiasts site that was supported through out donations. It is quite the monster now since digital photography has become "the thing".

Peterboy,
Thanks for answering Utahtea’s question on this thread – Utahtea, thanks for asking it!!

I am just starting photography as a hobby, and for now, I’m reading and learning a lot, while taking so-so pictures. I still have lot to learn by the time I go to the parks. I agree, places there look awesome, and it seems you can’t take bad pictures there, but I would love to do better than that.

I too have bookmarked your site, and go there a lot. Thanks for sharing, and for the search tip.

Peterboy,
A couple more questions: that field of….volcanic (?) balls, stones…what is it? Where is it? That looks so out of this world….

Where is that Buddha Canyon? Are those colors the real colors?
Thanks

xyz99, yes they were neat. We took a dirt road off of Rt. 12 somewhere between Escalante and Boulder on a lark and found them a couple of miles in. I really can't say exactly where we were. If you're going to the area, you could inquire at the visitor's center in Escalante. The rangers there probably know where I was. Maybe someone in a rock shop. Sorry I can't be more help.

Buddha Canyon is just out name for it since the ladies that run the Hell's Backbone Grill sent us there. They said that they like to bring the Buddhist Monks who come to bless their eatery to this little slot canyon to chant so we called it Buddha Canyon but, that's only our name for it. As I recall, it is about 6 miles in from Bouldertown on the paved section of the Burr Trail. Just look for a little pullout it is right by the road. It is a worthy photo op.
