Cape, RI, Nantucket, Marthas or what?
My husband will be in Needham, Mass the middle of September. We had thought of taking a belated anniversary trip the weekend before or after his business trip. We have seen Boston before and traveled north so I was thinking of Nantucket, MV, Cape Cod or any other romantic places. Whale watching would be nice. I will probably have only friday- monday.
Any suggestions? And what is with the no
car stuff?

My husband and I just returned from Cape Cod/Nantucket. We drove to Hyannis and arrived Friday late afternoon. We walked around Main Street, the harbor and stayed the night there. Saturday morning, we took the 8:45 am Hy-Line ferry to Nantucket and arrived there by 10:30 am. We then walked to Jetties Beach for some sun and swim, walked back to town and spent the rest of the day there. We then took the last Hy-Line ferry (8:20 pm) back to Hyannis and left Sunday morning.
We had the most wonderful time in Nantucket. It offered a good combination of relaxation and civilization. Nantucket residents may think that summer months are too crowded but, if you're from a metropolitan area (we're from NYC), the combination is nice.
If you have Friday through Monday, you may want to do something similar to what we did, except that you have one extra day than we did and can spend a day in MV also. This way, you get a snapshot of the Cape, Nantucket and MV and return on a future trip to a place which you prefer to explore more. That's what we're planning to do. Next time, we want to spend more time in Nantucket and explore the island a little more.
Good luck !

Michelle, Rhode Island, and especially Providence is really a great little city to visit. On the weekends, they might have a Waterfire event downtown. There is an Italian section, lots of great resturants and if you want the ocean you can drive out to Newport or Watch Hill or any South County beaches in under an hour. Boston and MV are great but Providence is probably a little bit less hectic. Give it a try (as a former Rhode Islander I really miss it) Have fun.
