Cape Cod area with children
We are looking at taking a trip to the Cape Cod area with our children ages 3 and 5. Does anyone have a good recommendation as to which part of the cape to stay on? We are also wondering if it would be better to stay on Martha's Vineyard. Any suggestions would be terrific!

The farther out on the Cape you go the better. There is the Falmouth area, then Hyannis (about mid-Cape) and Yarmouth-Dennis area. There are more places to stay in or near Hyannis.Farther out is Wellfleet and Truro and the National Seashore. Martha's Vineyard is nice and more expensive and you will want a car to get around. It will cost you more on the ferry to take the car over and will need reservations to do so. I would recommend Falmouth or the Yarmouth area is also popular if you just want to do beach time.

I would look at Chatham as well -- it's a great spot for families. Harding's Beach is perfect for young kids, the shops up and down Main Street are unique and fun to poke around in, and the widely-attended band concerts in the center of town on summer evenings are not to be missed. Wellfleet is wonderful, too, if you're looking for a quieter getaway.

We stayed at the Riviera Beach Resort in South Yarmouth, MA last summer. It is right on the beach but also has a nice pool. If you go mid-June or later, they will serve you lunch right on the beach. We really enjoyed it and it would be great for kids. The web site is: www.rivieraresort.com/amenities.htm
