Will be traveling with family from Chicago to Florida next week which means we will be away from home during the week of the deadline for war with Iraq. Now I am getting nervous. Wondering if I sould cancel vacation plans.

No - in your mind, imagine what is worst possible thing that could happen during vacation and then think about how you would handle it. Even after 9/11, the worst that happened was people were stranded somewhere for a while. Can't see how that is likely to happen now, but let's pretend it did - you could handle that. If this winter in Chicago has been anything like that in Northeast, spending one more day in winter is far worse than anything else. Also, since you say you are traveling with family, to cancel trip to Florida that theyhave been looking forward to would probably yield a fate worse than war fears.

That's a decision only you can make. I personally would go in a heartbeat but I don't have any children either. I would feel relatively safe in Florida. Honestly I'm a little afraid to travel to Chicago & stay downtown at the end of this month if war does start so I do know how you're feeling. It appears this is the way our lives will be for the next several years unfortunately. But for the most part, no, do not cancel your trip.

I do not think the risk of a terrorist attack tomorrow is less than when the war is in progress. I think the risk of terrorism will be approximately the same now as in the year 2013.

As far as whether you should travel, it depends on your acceptance of risk. The risk is low that something will happen to you. The risk is high that something will happen to somebody. The risk to you may (difficult to calculate) be the same as if you were to stay home instead(chance of car accident, robbery, etc.). There is no easy answer. Sorry.

I wouldn't let the threat of war keep me from travelling - esspecially travel within the US. Besides, I would think that Florida would be safer than Chicago if someone decided to target American cities. What it there to attack in Florida? And, like another person said, if it really hits the fan and you are stranded, it's a nice place to be. Just be prepared for more airport delays for security and allow for the extra time.

We are flying South in a couple of weeks from NYC and have no worries at all. Aside from the usual that I always have, will the plane go up? will the plane go down? But I think that within the US, travel is safer, and most likely, with a war on, it will be as safe as it has been. Sadly, when we thought it was safe it was not, now that we are worried, it seems to be safer.

Speaking from the prospective of close geographic proximity (Milwaukee)...GET OUTTA HERE!!! Since winter snow decided to wait until March to dump on us, I wouldn't let anything stop me from getting the heck out of the upper midwest right now. You have nothing to fear but maybe a few airport delays! My fiance goes back and forth to FL every other week or so without any problems at all.

You can't drive yourself nuts with this stuff, live your life. They are not that organized on the other side. It is not like we are faced with a developed nation coming at us. That is my opinion.

And like the person said above only you can answer this. Just trust yourself enough to know when you are realistic and when you are obsessing about things you can't control. You can control having a good time, looking forward to this chance to enjoy yourself during a difficult time in our economy and history. GO FOR IT!!!

If it were me I would not pick up a paper while I was there. I don't think you will want to read about the civilians killed. Just don't forget to vote in the next presidential election!!!

Hmm...would you rather be sitting on a warm beach or glued to CNN at home (with your family all disappointed and whining)? With thousands of flights taking off each day in the US, what makes you think that your particular flight might be a target? The cure for your fear is: stop reading the newspaper, stop watching the news. Go on vacation, and ask them to remove the TV from your room...and relax!

Enjoy your fabulous warm weather vacation and think of all of us back here in the cold and snow!!! My husband and I are taking our monthly vacation to Minneapolis this month (we are from Canada and live close to the border and ALWAYS spend our vacations in the good ol' USA to shop and relax).We went to Maui in Dec.I am not wasting a single thought of not going-we travelled to the US during Desert Storm in '91 and will continue to do so.I actually feel very safe when I am in the states and I know that your gov't is doing everything it possibly can to protect citizens and hopefully visitors from Canada(LOL on the Canada thing).Anyway, have a great trip and God Bless the USA and their troops!!!
