Canadians living in NYC
Hello.
I am a Canadian living in NYC and need to renew my Canadian passport. I am looking for suggestions of places to go to take Canadian Passport Photos. I know that there are very strict guidlines. Any suggestions of places to go in the NYC area? I'm hoping not to have the application sent back to me due to an unacceptable passport photo.
Please advise.
Thanks,

Here are the Canadian passport photo specifications:

There are probably dozens of places in NYC that do Canadian passport photos, here is one on E 42nd, $18.45 for the 2 photos:

I don't know. Perhaps go through the yellow pages under photographers or passport photos and call around, or call/email the consulate there and ask if they can suggest a place. Are Canadian passports even renewable?

My Canadian husband renewed his passport last year via mail, using a friend up there as a "guarantor." His first attempt was rejected because of the picture... not the format of the picture, which was a typical US passport-type picture, but because he "smiled." You would not believe what Canada considers a smile - the most neutral look imaginable! He's a relatively happy person, so perhaps he didn't have a decided frown on his face, but that was not acceptable. He glowered at the camera the next time and that was fine.
So be sure to look like a mean hockey enforcer with a bad hangover when you have your picture taken. Seems to be only requirement.

On that page I referenced above, what do they mean by "Canadian passports are not renewable"? (their bolding, not mine)
I assume it means that when your current passport expires, you need to completely re-apply again as if it were your initial request, i.e. filling out comprehensive forms and providing documentation -- but colloquially it's still called "renewing", is that right?
