Can you believe these people!

I am in Pittsburgh, PA visiting my sis and I called ahead to find out about traveling stand-by for an earlier flight tomorrow....the airline(usair) said that they now charge $25.00 to go stand-by! Has anyone heard of this before? Am I getting swindled? Seeing as Pittsburgh has declared a state of disaster due to all the snow (18"+) I am sure all the flights will be delayed anyway. Next thing you know they are going to start charging for the tiny peanuts and soda!

A number of airlines instituted fees recently for passengers wanting to fly standby. Most retracted the fees after numerous customer complaints. I believe USAir is one of the few that didn't. People should continue to complain and maybe eventually they will change their policy.

I understand your frustration. But,you bought a ticket for a certain date and time and I think it makes good sense to charge a fee for a change. They should charge for peanuts and soda as well. No more freebies.

the flights ,going to certain bad weather conditions, are on hold for awhile..news said 13.5inches and the airport is open...I`ve heard of an extra charge for standby tickets when tryinig to fly on a different scheduled flight...thoght it was more $$ than that...

Your request for standby may be academic. Since a lot of flights are being cancelled, I would think that with so many people needing a rebooking because of the cancellation, your chances of being successful on standby for an earlier flight are slim to non-existent!
