Can Anyone Top $2.29 gallon For Gas?

Yep, that's actually what I paid per gallon here in Hermosa Beach today So, is it higher anywhere else in the US or can we Southern Californians still lay claim to highest gas prices around (not exactly the slogan that drew me here when I moved from NY!)

I saw the same price posted on the NY side of the Palisade Parkway last weekend.

You're not alone.

I'm w/ Cicerone on this one. I live in NorCal and always laugh to myself when friends complain "OMG - $2.00 a gallon!"

Even at $3 a gal. we would have it easier than 90% of the rest of the world. One reason why we have such dreadful public transport - almost free gasoline . . . . .

Us Limeys have to shop around to beat $5:00 per gallon. Although our gallon is at least 8 full pints!
Im looking forward to my trip to Oregon this summer when i shall be happy to pay $2:00. Maybe by then the £1 will be at $2 as well. Its a tough life, but then you die!

I live on the Monterey Bay and this morning I just saw $2.48 a gallon for premium. I agree that our gas is cheaper than the rest of the world but in my area public transportation is scarce to say the least. Can you imagine how high it's going to be for the summer?!

Um, well the goal was more commiserating, than complaining, Cicerone. Or at least upbeat complaining That's why I said US, since I would never try and compare with other countries. But maybe I'm just reading a tone into your post that doesn't actually exist. Sorry either way!

So what do we learn from higher gas prices? Maybe to stop buying dangerous, wasteful SUV's? Maybe to pressure car makers for more fuel efficent hybrids?Maybe to walk and ride bikes more?

See, knowledge is good. Since I haven't taken a road trip in ages (yes, because of high gas prices , I was curious about other areas in the US. Absolutely we pay less for gas than many other countries -- I would never claim otherwise. But I can't pretend that rising prices don't affect my checkbook because of my awareness that someone in a another country pays more. So, sorry if some of you guys (particularly outside the US) took offense -- seriously, I was just curious where S. CA fell in the range. How 'bout this -- my healthcare coverage is expensive and probably sucks compared to yours

mp - Hopefully you are right.

In my city, everyone is so automobile-centric that it's downright dangerous to ride a bike. Bicyclists literally take their lives into their hands when they try to commute on bikes because drivers just don't watch out. It's ridiculous.

I filled my tank last weekend and paid $1.85 which was way more than I had paid recently. By Monday upon my drive home from work it had skyrocketed past $2.00 at Arco. I hadn't been aware that it was going to be rising so quickly. Yesterday I saw Beacon with $1.89. My kids even remarked how low that was. Geez $1.89 is low?

The Bay Area & LA area always get slammed when prices rise.

That's what really surprised me too, Suzie -- how quickly it's been rising again. Tuesday it was $2.00, now it's gone up already?

More power to ya, mp. From your mouth... It's sad, because the LA freeways are only getting more and more congested every year and the only proposed solutions in place are increasing the number of lanes!

JV827 - your original post got me nostalgic for Hermosa Beach. Lived there as a single gal a dozen years ago and still miss it. What's still great about it? Does Sushi Sei still exist, and Hennessy's and Lappert's? How about the movie house that used to run all the cool animation festivals etc...and FFFFs? Sigh...it's these chilly N. Va days that make me nostalgic for the beach (even the June gloom). But maybe not the gas prices!

Paid a $1.59 a gallon in Denver yesterday.

I thought we invaded Iraq to get control of their oil supplies and keep gasoline cheap for all the SUV drivers! Another Bush administration lie, lol.

I was wondering why the lines at the Costco store were so long on Tuesday to get regular gas for $1.99. Now I know, I live in the bay area.
