Hi all, I have 3 nights (camping) reserved at Canyon Village in July...

I read some nice reviews of that campground, but am concerned about the it being crowded etc. BTW, I have a "small tent" site, that was all I could get when I reserved

On the other hand I am driving in from the south and going right past Lizard Creek CG (in Grand Tetons NP) which sounds quieter (first come first serve though); so I could stay there instead

Our main objective is to see the sights primarily in Yellowstone so Canyon Village is probably better suited for that;

What are your thoughts/experiences on these two?

You don't want to drive back and forth from Tetons to Yellowstone--way too much needless driving. EVERY campground in Yellowstone or GTNP will be full in July. Just the way it is. Stick with Canyon--its a very good location.

I read a trip report from over July 4th and some of the campgrounds were not full right away but it is safer to have your reservations. If you dislike Canyon and want to move just make sure you're at the campground early! The quiet, nice campgrounds are first come first serve, hence the risk.

Canyon was a pretty nice campground.
Pros: great central location; near the Village where laundry, showers, food is/are available

No cons, but some warnings (whining!): It can be a really long walk to the village for showers etc, depending on where they stick you. Firewood was expensive and not that dry. Do not get the "small tent site" if you're tenting; ours was not a real campsite.

Alternative for adventurous types: There were campsites available at Lizard Creek in GTNP (we swung thru on our way); this is a very pretty campground but really woodsy and primitive compared to Canyon. Plus is its on the lake....
