Cabs in Central Park

We're heading back to New York City in June for a wedding at the Loeb Boat House in central park. I've heard that there are no cars (or cabs) allowed in the park. Is this true? That certainly wasn't the case when I was growing up in NYC.

Taxi traffic is limited thru the park. I go to a dentist on CPS at 6th Ave,,, and sometimes a cab will be able to enter the park there and exit at 72 and Fifth. Other times the drive is closed... why, I don't know. I would check with the Boat House. Since the restaurant is close to CPW cabs might have easier access . (neighbors had their daughter's wedding at the Boat House and were absolutely delighted with the experience.)

The cabs use the transverses across the Park. There is one at 65/66 Streets and 81/79 Streets.

Thank you both for your replies.

Gwendolyn, do you know if the cabs can also enter the park at 72nd & Fifth? If so, they could drop us very near to the Boat House.

Just a minor correction to my original post: the wedding is actually in March, not June. I have a stack of trip reservations between now and June sitting on my desk, and I just lost track. However, if I miss the wedding because of a senior moment, I'll end up tied to those tracks!

Here's a link to the vehicular traffic rules in Central Park--no vehicular traffic north of the 72nd St Transverse, and most other access limited to weekday mornings, the interior drives now used by so many runners and cyclists.

The Loeb Boathouse is much closer to the east side of the park, near Fifth Avenue and 75th. Even the Loeb Boathouse website avoids the issue by stating "There are many enjoyable ways to get to The Loeb Boathouse. Simply walking from 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue is always an option."

You cannot take a taxi directly to the restaurant, but there's a shuttle that will pick you up and take you back to Fifth Avenue. You could also take a pedicab, but I'd warn that they are expensive, and they tend to congregate at the southern end of the park rather than the middle or north.

I was thinking of Tavern on the Green .. when I said the place was nearer CPW (old age creeping up...) I do recall having lunch at the Boat House and walking in from Fifth Avenue. Not a big deal if one is not disabled. Don't know how that is handled.
Hope you have a wonderful time.
