Weve stayed at oakhaven several times over the years. We got the angel cottage for $425/week! You dont see prices like that anymore though.

My jewerly was stolen by the cleaning staff last time we were there. I was naive (stupid) to leave it out. The owners were no help which was the most disappointing thing. We were young and they easily brushed us off. We havent returned since but we also havent been back to GSM since so not sure whether the theft would deter me from staying there again. The cabins really are perfect but I felt it was the right thing to do to tell you about the jewerly.

Enjoy your time in the mountains and if youre looking for a good trail our fav is chimney tops! Clingmans Dome was always closed when wed go (March) but Ive always wanted to try that trail as well-lemmie know how it is if you take that hike!

Traveler_A, there really aren't that many lakes in the Smokies. You're more likely to find something near a stream/creek, but not so much a lake. If you take a look at Google Maps you'll see what I mean - not much blue there.

Thanks, Jent103. I wasn't seeing much on the map but wasn't sure. Maybe more options for that on the North Carolina side?

I'm not as familiar with the NC side, but they do have the Nantahala River, which might give you what you're looking for. Hopefully others will chime in with more options.

Should have added - you might try looking for cabins around Chilhowee Lake (TN side) or Fontana Lake (NC) side. Chilhowee isn't super close to most of the major attractions in the park (Google Maps has it over an hour from Gatlinburg and Cades Cove, for example), but if you are more interested in a lake view, it might work. I'm really not sure what options are near either lake.
