BWI to Boston avoiding NYC?

I assumed auto -- but then why say BWI rather than DC or Baltimore? Anyway, via plane I recommend AirTran; they have some nice discounts if you buy in advance.
Via auto, I'd just avoid Route 95, stay west of NYC and then get on Route 90 (known hereabouts as the Mass Pike) eastbound.

Our OP has yet a third post going, in which he states: "Can anyone suggest a two day scenic drive between Baltimore and Boston. We would definitely like to stay west of New York City. Any help would be very much appreciated. Oh, we will be driving on Oct. 19 & 20...leaf season?"
So we have some additional clues -- dates and it's an overnight that should be scenic.
Yes, that late in Oct. you will probably run into some foliage in southern New England and farther south; it's different every year, last year was very late and your dates were peak in western MA.

Egg on MY face! Here's the deal. I live in southern Virginia. My sister in law lives in Colorado. And, her friends live in Boston. She is flying in to BWI, renting a car, driving to Boston, driving down to southern VA a couple of days later, and, finally back to BWI. She was planning to get off the plane and drive straight to Boston. I explained that she was planning one VERY long day. Soooo, emails have been flying back and forth. Hense the multiple posts. So sorry. But, hey, you guys are great to stick with me. I "meet" the nicest people on this site!

That's no excuse for multiple posts -- it would be more constructive for you to reply to your own existing thread, providing the additional details. Pick one and stop replying to (toping) the others.
I live in Boston and my daughter went to college in DC; yes, it's a long day but it can be done.

I'm oh so sorry I have offended your delicate sensibilities. I'm new to using message boards. If there is somewhere that I can find a tutorial on proper message board ettiquete, please refer me. "anonymous" may have come across harsh with the suggestion ... but hasn't s/he provided some good suggestions?
People on this board usually do try to be helpful, but when several threads are created, it makes it hard to reply. One doesn't want to reply to EACH of the threads, but also don't want to reply to a thread that you might never see again.
TIP: if you click on your name (towards the top of the screen) -- or anyone else's ... where it reads "Author: <ul>xxxxxxxxxx</ul>, you'll see the threads (or discussions) that person has posted to. The threads will be listed in order of the date/time that ANYONE has posted to it.
By clicking on your name you can quickly locate your previous thread and merely reply to it, rather than starting new ones.

BTW, one route I would consider is from "Bahwmor" take I-83 to I-81 to I-84 to I-90. Enjoy Amish areas of PA and maybe Old Sturbridge Village near where I-84 meets I-90. If you have a great interest in baseball, stop at Cooperstown NY by traveling I-83 to I-81 to I-88 to Cooperstown, then N to I-90 then head East. The least amount of tolls on the first routing I suggested.
