Bus tour advise

I, along with my sister are traveling to NYC for the first time during the first weekend in November. There is so many tourist sites that we want to see in a limited amount of time, arriving Friday morning and leaving Sunday evening. I would like to take a bus tour of the city but am not sure what would be the best one to take. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the hop-on, hop off buses are a good option.
There's a pricey option on zerve that is a photographer's dream, taking you to most of the major sites.
I'd buy the two day pass on the hop-on, hop off bus. Over two days, you'll see most of what you want to see.
I took a Sex in the City tour the last time - and it was a blast! Not your normal tourist sights, that's for sure

Do you have any recommendations for the bus company we should use? We did consider doing The Sex in the City tour, since we are both fans of the show but decided since this is our first trip that we try to see most of the major sites.

The red buses.
Honestly, it's been a few years ago. We did NOT like a Gray line Christmas City Lights tour.

I think it's this one that we took - but the tour in enhanced by a good guide - and that is hit and miss.

Oh, heavens!

A Broadway show. If you don't have a favorite that you "must see" then buy tix at the 1/2 price TKTS booth - currently outside the Marriott Marquis. My must see is "Wicked" but you can get tix to great shows at the TKTS booth on the day of show.

For museums my favorite is the Frick. Beautiful art in a beautiful former home built to be a gallery for his collection. It's small so it doesn't take too long or make you feel overwhelmed.

A carriage ride in Central Park. Corny, but I love it.

Walking around Times Square area at night.

One of the foodsofny.com walking tours is a great way to see the city and sample lots of good food. I'd take the original Greenwich Village tour.

Those would be my top choices.

Oh, consider buying a ticket for the Top of the Rock view. No lines like the Empire State Building and
you get to SEE the ESB

Thai or other ethnic restaurant(s).

I'd say the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular if you are there on the 11/7 weekend.

Strolling 5th avenue and ducking into Tiffany's. Take the elevator to the top floor to see gifts that are more $$$ friendly. I ordered Tiffany blue monogrammed playing cards the first time I went. Why not?

St. Patrick's Cathedral. A church service "somewhere". ellenem invited me to her church and I really enjoyed it.

That will pretty much fill up a weekend.

The first weekend in November is the NYC Marathon! The city will be packed and I would not suggest a bus tour at all. Traffic will be terrible. If you're going to do one, I'd do the city lights (nighttime)

Agree that the city will be packed with visitors that weekend. On Sunday taffic will be blocked everywhere and the only things that make sense are feet or subway.

(You don;t say where you're staying - but I hope you already have ahotel - many wil be sold out by now due to the marathon.)

Separatly, I reco against any of the bus tours - you spend way too much time sittingin traffic and looking at the outsides of buildings than actually doing or seeing anything.

If you're big Sex/City fans and want to do that fine - but otherwise I woud stick to walking tours or do it yourself to the sights YOU want to see.

(Just so you're aware the hop on/off buses often fil up and more - and it you want a seat you may have to wait for the next one.
