BUDGET accomodation needed for Charleston S.C.

We will be going to Charleston in October and would like to be near most attractions. We are looking for a reasonably priced hotel preferably with pool.If anyone has any ideas of sightseeing for a couple in their 20s and a couple in their 50s we would love to hear them.THANKS !!

There is a Days Inn right in the heart of the historic district. Most of the other places in the area are not budget priced. Charlston is wonderful, just walking around there is delightful--a number of the historic homes are open to visitors and you can purchase a ticket for entry into several. Stop by the visitors center when you arrive for more info. A couple of good restaurants are Magnolias and Carolinas.

I agree w/Steve-Charleston is awesome to stroll. I'd suggest taking a historical carriage ride first to get the "lay of the land", then go see what intersts you on your own.

We loved the open market & admiring the gardens & architecture. I'd recommend the restaurant, Slightly North of Broad.

The Days Inn downtown is your best bet. Try the Francis Marion. It is about a 1/2 mile away from the "Market", but still in the middle of everything. You will still pay at low $100 a night. Maybe Days Inn is cheaper. If that is too much, go across the big bridge to Mt Pleasant. THere are several motels there that are nice and cheaper than downtown. There are closer to the beaches also. The best thing to do in the city is rent a bike in the market and ride through the neighborhoods---look at the houses. If you stay outside of the historic district. PAY TO PARK when you get downtown and walk everywhere. Do not drive everytime you want to go 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. Parking is very limited. Last remark----Go to Hymans seafood for lunch. It is fun and good.

Me again.----I saw your remark about a pool. Due to the urban landscape of Charleston, pools in downtown hotels are either nonexistant or only in the very expensive. You never know though. I must say, there is so much to do beside sit by a pool but it is your vacation. If you want sun,----I would suggest go to the beach-----Also, write to my email if you want the details on what to see. I lived there for several years and make trips back every couple of months.

Have fun

I recently booked rooms at The Best Western King Charles Inn for $89.00 weekdays and $119.00 weekends (AAA rate, double bed only). I was also quoted $111.00/$139.00 (king bed) at the Hampton Inn Historic District. Now I just have to decide which one to go with. Anyone have any suggestions? I have also heard rave reviews of Magnolias and plan to eat there.
