Bryces Canyon or Zion

My husband and I are going to Salt Lake City the last weekend in January and plan on driving to either Zion or Bryces Canyon for 2-3 days then on to Vegas. My questions: which park is better in late January? What is there to do in the parks in the winter (we don't ski!)? Any advice on accomodations? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Zion. Bryce is too high and too cold in January. More accomodations as well.

I second Zion. Here's where we stayed this past fall. I highly recommend this B&B located just outside the park.

Limited to what can do in either park in the winter. But, more available in Zion. You might consider Arches/Canyonlands/Moab area as well.

I did some more research last night and think Zion is the best option. We were hoping to stay inside the park to make the most of our stay. Any suggestions on lodging inside the park? Is it worth staying in the park or should we stay at a local B&B? We want to stay somewhere quiet where we can see the stars at night!

Only one place to stay in the park and that's Zion Lodge, unless you're into staying in a tent. Never stayed at the lodge so I can't help you there.

DeMarco,

Springdale, the little town just outside the park is VERY quiet at night - and the stars are awesome no matter where you stay!

I have stayed at the Zion Lodge in the park once years ago and it was fine. Food was just passable.

The Desert Pearl is very nice and the Zion Park Inn (BW) is nice too, although a bit more typical hotel. They have a very good restaurant, the Switchback Grill.

If not camping, I like the Novel House Inn. Comfy rooms and beds, yummy breakfast. Check out their web site. Location is right behind the Zion Pizza & Noodle, so Desert Pearl has a nicer location since it backs up to the Virgin River.

I was just in Zion for Thanksgiving weekend and took time to visit the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. It's about a 30 minute drive east out of the park. Wonderful facility! Just one thing to do with your 2-3 days.
