There are many ways from Bryce Canyon to Yellowstone. How long do you have

The fastest route is also the most boring route. I-15 & Hwy 20 is 600 miles.

If you had a little time I would take Scenic Highway 12 from Bryce to Torrey, Utah which takes you though the Escalante Grand Staircase National Mounument. I would also make the short side trip from Torrey to Capitol Reef National Park. From Torrey take Hwy 24 to Hwy 50 back to I-15. This route would only add another 100 miles.

You don't mention how you are getting to Bryce. I hope you plan on visiting Zion National Park.

Also plan on spending at least 5 days in Yellowstone. It is a big park with a lot of different things to see bysides Old Faithful.

I second the idea that Utah 12 is a gorgeous drive. Capitol Reef is a fantastic place to visit. I prefer it to Zion in many respects.

The ways from Bryce to Yellowstone are many. The last time I drove it, 2 years ago, we went from Bryce to Torrey for a look at Capitol Reef, and then took the most direct route I could find on the map to Salt Lake City

To reach SLC from Torrey, I took state route 24 from Torrey to Salina, and from Salina we drove to Scipio on US 50 where we joined I 15 to Salt Lake City.

North of SLC we took US 89 to Logan where we spent the night.

From Logan we drove up the canyon on US 89 to Bear Lake, and from there north all the way to Jackson Wyoming. Then we went through the Tetons and on to Yellowstone by the south entrance.
Pretty drive in many places.

There is another variation. Take I 80 east from Salt Lake City to Evanston, Wy. Go north at Evanston on state routes 89 and 16 to Sage Creek, then jog west to Garden City and pick up US 89 as described above.

If I had to make haste from Bryce to Yellowstone, which is not what I would want to do, I would go as follows:

Drive to Panguitch from Bryce, picking up US 89 south of town.

North of Panguitch, take route 20 over to I 15.
Follow I 15 north to Idaho Falls and take US 20 from there to West Yellowstone.

But I agree 150% with Utahtea. There is too much of beauty in between to go dashing off like there is no tomorrow.

To reiterate, route 12 to Torrey from Bryce is beautiful. Much of the route is over the gleaming white Navajo Sandstone that makes those awesome cliffs in Capitol Reef and Zion.
Then the route goes over the mountains to Torrey. That feature does not show on most maps, but the drive is spectacular places.

Bob,

We really enjoyed the drive thought Logan Canyon the last time we came down from Yellowstone.

I had a post card ready to mail and I choose the Paris, Idaho Post Office to do it at. My friend had sent me one from Paris, France but this was the best I could do in return...LOL!

I am just now able to check out messages for our trip. Thanx so very much utahtea, and bob brown. We will take your suggestions.I do read other notes on the board relative to us. I have one nites stay unplanned from Bryce to SLC. Ideas? We are an older couple and don't do well over 400 miles driving per day. Maybe Aurora? We are on a 5 week trip and I am doing all the planning--we're very excited--fly into Denver, Canon City 2nights, Mesa Verde 2 nites Sedona a week{rest time Ha!}Las vegas 3 nites[pay for the trip, right?] Zion, Bryce SLC,visit Driggs, Idaho, 4 nights in Yellowstone. thinking about using one of those days to visit Cody all day and return at night to Yellowstone.
AFter that I'm lost--thought I'd go up Beartooth Pass to Billings-one night May 28th [ I'm concerned about the weather] so we can visit Custer's last stand. From this point I still have 6 nights before needing to be in Denver to fly back home. We want to see Devil's Tower and Mt Rushmore also.
I know this is truly a trip of our lifetime, and I thank ya'll so much for your messages. KCP
