bryce canyon, UT

Okay, can anyone who has done
Bryce recently, let me know if
there are any restrooms other
than in the visitor's center?
All I know is that this area is
pretty remote...

I guess there is no in park shuttle so
one will be driving long before any
conveniences and facilities are present.

Also, if one were to go in early May
is it advisable to skip this park and
just head to the Sand Dunes, instead?
I was planning on doing Zion already, just
don't know if Bryce is worth it with
construction and lack of shuttles!

Thanks,

Bryce is a small but spectacular (very) park. Restrooms are available throughout at designated overlook areas - I can't imagine that you would ever be more than 20 minutes from a facility. I would not really describe this park as remote but I don't know what you are comparing this with.

Pati: Bryce is not what I'd consider a remote park. There are motels and restaurants along Hwy 12. I believe there are restrooms at the shuttle staging area immediately outside the park, and there's definitely restrooms (along with a restaurant and big gift shop/mini grocery) at Best Western/Ruby's Inn outside the Park. There's restroom facilities in the Visitors' Center. Another rest area is located at Rainbow Point. Also restrooms at the Bryce Lodge. I believe you noted my earlier post on shuttle service resuming May 15; please call the park at 435-834-5322; I'm quoting from 2000 literature, and it may have changed. The construction on the road isn't horrid; it's just that the shuttle is a no-hassle, environmentally kind way to see the park, since most of the time people are pulling off the road to go to various overlooks, and the shuttles get preferential treatment when the construction workers are waving through the traffic. Traffic is not going to be intense in May- you're going to be there before the school kids are out. Even though Bryce and Zion are geographically close, they both have very different, unique vistas. Don't think because you've seen one, you've captured the beauty of both. Please look at the www.nps.gov site, and also check out www.go-utah.com. I haven't been to Sand Dunes, so can't comment on it.

I have visited most national parks in the southwest and on the west coast. If I had to choose one to revisit it would be Bryce. In my mind it is the jewel of the National Park system and that includes Gr. Canyon.
