linda, i believe the "cabins" are both run by the same agency - amark or something like that. they can answer all your questions. there is one set of lodging in the park at zion and are all located together. by the way the location for the lodging at zion is beautiful.

The cabins at both Bryce and Zion are similar in style and layout- a small covered porch with a bench or chairs (so you can sit outside and take in the view), and a large main room with bed(s), gas log stone fireplace, and a small table and chairs for dining. Believe there's also a writing desk & chair and chest of drawers. Directly off from the main room, there's a split dressing/bathroom area- the bathroom has a door, the dressing area does not (but it's not visible from the main room, so you have your privacy). There's a sink in the dressing area, and it works well as a vanity. There's also a rod to hang your clothes. The cabins at Zion are newer than those at Bryce- believe the original cabins were destroyed by fire- that's why the lodge and cabins look different at Zion than those at Bryce and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. As for requesting location, I don't think AmFac will allow you to designate a particular location at Bryce or Zion (both sites have cabins grouped in one area), but when you register, the clerk will show you a map of the cabin locations. At Bryce, cabins 506 & 507 are the furthest from the parking lot, but also closer to the trail to Sunrise Point. Cabins 504, 505, 502, and 503 also are good as to proximity to Sunrise Point trail. However, remember there's not a handsturn difference in distance really, so don't get locked into a it's "this room or nothing" mentality. It's all good! Plus, the cabins facing the road are a little handier when loading the car. It's the same at Zion; sorry I don't have my Zion cabin layout anymore. My biggest recommendation for the cabins is to purchase some cheese & crackers and bring along a good bottle of wine so you can enjoy a nice happy hour as the sun sets at both locations. Enjoy!
