Brunch in New Orleans

We're planning to go to NO in mid-October. I know that there have been many posts recommending the jazz brunch at Commander's Palace, but I'm also thinking of the gospel brunch at House of Blues. I realize that the food will be better at CP, but I might enjoy the HOB music more. Anyone recommend it? I notice they have 3 seatings and we were thinking of the 11:45 AM one.

Re Commander's Palace, is the jazz more or less continuous or do they play short sets? I'm wondering if there's a chance that, because of timing, we might get brunch, but not much in the way of jazz.

Any advice?

The jazz at Commander's Palace is provided by a trio that walks around the restaurant. Since the restaurant is quite large and has several divided sections, the music you hear won't last very long.

If you're more interested in a music experience, you'd probably prefer the HOB. For great food and service, Commander's Palace can't be beaten.

Thanks SusanCS. I talked to my husband and we're thinking we'll go for the House of Blues. I'm sure we're going to have some memorable meals in New Orleans, so the focus for this meal will be music instead. Thanks again.

My new favorite place for brunch is Ralph's on the Park...another Brennan's restaurant...check out their website. Like Commander's it has a jazz trio...they hang out between the bar and the main dining room so you pretty much have continuous music. The setting is more casual than Commander's...but very nice. Don't miss the new sculpture garden at the New Orleans Museum of Art...a short walk from Ralph's.

You can go to the jazz brunch at any of the House of Blues in the U.S., but there's only one Commander's Palace!

Thanks for the replies. So far, no firm decision made.

Postal, I know that HOB is in other US locations - but we rarely travel in the US. But point well taken!
