Broadway Show With Theater Loving 10 year old?

I am taking my 10 year old daughter to see a show this summer. I am leaning towards In the Heights but was wondering if there were any others that she might enjoy. She has seen Hairspray, Mamma Mia, Wicked and Grease and loved them all. I was also thing about Chicago. Any ideas or comments?

The Little Mermaid is the first show that comes to mind. There may be new shows out by then. Check out Broadway.com to see whats out. Do not take her to Avenue Q - Great show but for adults only. Don't let the puppets fool you.
Have a great time.

Billy Elliot is excellent (with a bit of coarse language) and has really great dancing and lots of kids in the cast. I think a 10 year-old could handle it. It's so much better than The Little Mermaid. Mary Poppins is also quite good.

I think most of Chicago might be over your daughter's head, and the themes are very much more adult-oriented. Billy at least is focused on kids.

But In the Heights is a great show and should please her as well and has the advantage of discount tickets, which you can't get yet for Billy Elliot.

On Broadway Box, I could only find tickets through March 14th for In The Heights. Am I looking in the wrong place?

No, sf7307, you're not looking in the wrong place. Discount offers usually span only 2 or 3 months. Check it again next week and there'll probably be a new offer with a later date.

Thanks - it's for a friend who will be there with a 17 and 21-year old in April. Sounds perfect for them.

LION KING! you will both love it. Adults love this show as much as their children. It's spectacular and perfect for your ten year old. It is stll one of the best shows out there!

I agree - Lion King is great for a 10-year old. I'm one of the adults who didn't think it was so fabulous (for adults).

I vote for Lion King too. Sit in the mezzanine for this show. (IMO)

In the Heights would be a great choice. She might also enjoy West Side Story. I think Chicago is too adult/cynical for a 10 year old to really get and enjoy.

I've seen all the shows you listed except Grease. I've seen the Lion King and it is still one of my favorites. My daughter was 15 when we saw it and she loved it too. You could probably get really good seats too.

Just wanted to update...we ended up seeing In the Heights and we both LOVED it! She now doesn't know which show is her "all time FAVORITE" (said like a tween) In the Heights or Wicked. After the first song we both looked at each other and knew that it was a great choice. We also ended up seeing Shrek the Musical. It was cute. Not on the same level... but still entertaining! Thanks!

I loved In the Heights too.

Check your local PBS listing: there's a show on Great Performances airing this month about the making of In the Heights. It's called Chasing the Dream and features show clips and interviews with cast members.

I'm not surprised. In the Heights is definitely perfect for a tween/teen - lively, great dancing and the type of music they love. I think Chicago is too cynical for her to really appreciate, although the dancing is classic.

I know lots of people love Lion King - but can;t wrap my mind around Disney in any form.
