Oh my! Starrs just directed me to this thread. I had no idea!!! Have never been to Broadway, but DD and I get season tickets to the Pantages every year and I'm trying to figure out our season. Need to hunt down some older threads!
Starrs, I totally thought you meant another website. I googled it and LOL'd when it brought me back to Fodors!

There's one for every season. lowcountryislander saw the Addams Family last spring. That's when I saw Million $ Quartet, although it was discussed here. Billy Elliott is all over the place. Memphis is here or on the earlier one. Do some searches.
This is a GREAT place to hang out cat

She is Nina Arianda and I saw her debut last year (right out of NYU) Off Bway in 'Venus in Fur.' She was amazing. You left the theater thinking that she's got some career ahead of her. I bought tix to 'Born Yesterday' because she's in it.
'Other Desert Cities' was wonderful, but the cast was even better. What an ensemble. It will be going to Bway next fall, but possibly with another cast.

I saw an early preview of 'How to Succeed' last night (the one with Daniel Radcliffe). It was good. My partner, who has never seen either the show or the movie, thought it was great. I wasn't quite as impressed. Radcliffe is still a bit stiff and needs to relax a bit on stage (he had clenched fists during many scenes). And he really didn't sell "I Believe in You" at all. And he has some difficulty enunciating a few of his lines in an American accent. But he's quite a good singer, and a serviceable dancer (he's never quite in line with the chorus in the big dance numbers). My guess is that he'll get some mixed reviews from critics, as well the production, which drags a bit in a few scenes. But it was enjoyable. I couldn't believe the mob of people waiting to get Harry Potter's autograph, though. There were police overseeing the line-up.

Thanks Doug,
I realised after I posted that it's still in previews. With so many shows I am getting myself confused about what's on, what's not and what's in previews.
The need to prioritise what to see during my week's stay is driving me crazy!

For most shows (except perhaps Spiderman), the difference between previews and regular performances is negligible. Sure, actors are still settling into their roles, but except for newly developed shows, most of those on Broadway have been tested elsewhere, so major changes at this point are rare. And you can often score a cheaper ticket for a preview performance. I almost always see musicals in preview (I'm seeing both Priscilla and Book of Mormon in late previews). I saw an early preview of How to Succeed.
As a New Yorker, I can't remember the last time I paid full-price to see any Broadway show. I simply wouldn't go if I had to pay full price (which was precisely my experience with The Producers and a few other so-called "blockbusters" where discounts were never offered).

"Julie Taymor to step down from Spiderman. Christopher Ashley ('Memphis,' 'Xanadu,' 'The Rocky Horror Show') and Philip McKinley ('The Boy from Oz') have been rumored to replace her."
This show should be renamed "SpiderWEB..a tangled mess".

I hope you all watched the concert that marked the 25th anniversary of the London production of Les Miserables that's been on PBS this week. For those of you in New York who missed the first showing last Sunday, it'll repeated on Channel 13 at 12:30 p.m. this Sunday. It's really quite marvelous!

We watched the Les Miz special on PBS and I must say I didn't like it. I didn't like the semi-staged, concert format. All the singers/actors had to walk up to the mic and sing in a line-formation. As a result, there's minimal interaction between the characters. Singing was good though.

yk, that's what a concert version is all about!!!! It's not intended to be a recreation of the staging of a "regular" performance in a theater. Instead, this specific performance was intended to be a glorious (and massive) celebration of 25 years of success on an intentionally grand scale, literally untilizing the talents of hundreds of performers. And, looking at it from that perspective, I found it to be a memorable television experience. We do agree on one point: The singing was indeed good!

I saw Anything Goes two nights ago.
I have three words to say about it.
GET TICKETS IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!
This show is phenomenal. Sutton Foster is amazing. Sutton Foster = TONY nomination for sure for this one. Joel Grey is fun. Sutton Foster is A+++++++. After the last song/dance of Act I (anything goes), I couldn't believe Foster can do this show once a day, much less when there are matinees. It is by far THE highest energy show I have ever seen.
Jessica Walters and John McMartin are great also.
The Cole Porter music, the choreography, the tap dancing, the fun the frolic, the acting, the sets, the period and very cool costumes, it is all there.
GET DISCOUNT TICKETS NOW BEFORE THE SHOW OPENS AND THE REVIEWS COME OUT.
I can recommend this musical/dance production over any other I have seen in the past 30 yrs. (And that includes 42nd St. which I saw in the early 80s, South Pacific, Oklahoma, and everything else.)
It is amazing and if it disappoints you, well, are you sure you're breathing?
There are some rehearsal videos here, including the Anything Goes number.

One thing bout the Sondheim theater, which I had not been to before. We were in the orchestra row N in themiddle. I thought this would be pretty far back, but the rows in this theater start rising at about row L. So we were slightly raised above the 3-4 rows in front of us and the entire orchestra in front of them. It was as if we were in the 5th-6th row because of this - GREAT SEATS, discounted ones also for $89 a piece.
I can't get this show off my mind. Have to go again.
The bad economy, Japan, it is all awful. This show is perfect for forgetting the blues and it will pump you up.

We bought the Les MIserables 25 year concert on DVD, and absolutely loved it. We have seen the show three times before, my favourite musical. Anyone who has seen the concert, and liked the music and the singing, and hasn't seen the actual show, should go and see it, you will love it.
Thanks emd3 for the heads up about Anything Goes. I think I will get tickets for my daughter's birthday.
