end3, you were able to use the discount offer because of the postponement of the first preview performance and thus the extension of the preview period. The first preview is scheduled for tomorrow night. Of course, with the recent history of the show's problems, who knows if that'll happen tomorrow!

I saw Elling earlier this week, and it was okay. I didn't think it was as bad as the critics say, though it wasn't that good either.

BUT still, I'm SHOCKED that it's closing tomorrow, after just 9 official performances! It was supposed to run until March 2011. At least at my performance, the theatre was mostly full.

There has been discussion on the postponement of the Spiderman opening on another thread here (link below). In it I think I posted that Ticketmaster has extended the discount period through all previews. I'm dying to hear how the Sunday preview goes. Please post as soon as anyone hears.

I just heard on the local news that tonight's opening preview of Spiderman will be the first total runthrough of the show! They have not been able to do it so far because of technical problems. So, the spokespeople are now saying things like (in my words), "We hope you will enjoy the show as it moves through it development." That's not exactly what they said, but it was that type of comment, i.e., "Come see us , warts and all!" According to what I heard, reporters (as opposed to critics) will be at the show, so we may get some insights tomorrow!

To think i've paid full Price for My next week tickets... I' anxious to read tomorrow's opinion! Please keep us updated!!

Carlota, Ticketmaster gave me a refund for my tickets. I was supposed to see Spiderman on Jan 7 and it will still be in Previews. When I asked, they refunded my money. See the post at the link above for their email to me.

I'll wait to read about the first reviews... It'll br hard to get tickets for the best shows for NeXT week... The real pity is to have red about the disscount code just hours after i had purchased the tickets at their full Price...

Please don't expect REVIEWS of Spiderman tomorrow. If anything, they'll be reports on how things went, especially those on the technical end, but reviews won't appear until the show officially opens in January.
But you can certainly be assured that there'll be a lot of buzz and scuttlebut about this show in advance!

Carlota, I would send an email to Ticketmaster and ask for a discount on your tickets. Hey...it can't hurt to ask. What can they say -- "no", in which case, you'll be right where you are now. They might give you a discount. You never know until you ask.

Howard, Please keep us posted if you hear/read anything in NY tomorrow. I'm eager to know what happens.

From what I heard on the radio today, the rehearsals have not gone too well lately. This is the first time I've ever heard of a show opening--even for previews--without ever having had a single runthrough.

Update: The local CBS TV station just reported that today's preview of Spiderman has been canceled.

Ooops, that CBS TV report may be wrong. The NY Times website still reports that the preview was taking place.

Ouch! I was impressed by what I saw on the 60 Minutes segment last night.

Many posts similar to this one on the boards:

"went in ready to love this show....been dying to see it .......ended up hating almost every minute of it.......can't imagine how they can change that much. The music and the book are garbage."

The muddled story and lackluster music seem to be the biggest complaint.

TC, thanks for all the posting info. After reading the Times, Post and blogs, all I can say is "Wow!"
I'll be very, very curious to see if they can pull it off.
One of the more interesting observations made on the blog was the comment that the aerial stunts in the Cirque de Soleil shows are more impressive!

Howard, that last statement does not surprise me. Cirque performers take years developing the skills to do those aerial stunts. Trying to take actors and teach them in a few weeks means they just can't be quite as impressive. Sure they fly out over the audience, but who hasn't seen that a lot with Cirque performers -- who do more than simply turn a couple times in air over the heads of the audience. And it's no wonder that there have been two broken foot incidents with the actors trying to learn the stuff.

Howard....I know! I couldn't believe that comment either. They've had how many, five years, to pull this together? Cirque does a whole new show every year or two and rolls them around the country in a tent. What's the big deal with Spiderman?

I don't know how its ever going to be a success for the producers. One thing that has made Lion King such a monetary success is its ability to travel. That show has played (and is still playing) everywhere. How on earth will this show ever travel? It won't even function in the theater it was specifically designed for.

My greatest disappointment, though, are the many comments on boring, muddled, lackluster, book and music. Technical glitches I can understand (its a bit late for that, but I get it), however, the book and music ought to be rock solid by now.

Patrick....here's an idea, why didn't they put some of those highly trained Cirque performers in the show and teach them how to sing? That might have been a whole lot easier. Doesn't sound like the music requires nearly as much skill as the stunts.
