I don't feel I have to defend my opinion, but since you question my judgment, I'll just say this: While I have only seen On the Town in the Berkshires before it came to New York, I still have the strong feeling that based on my knowledge of that show, combined with my strong, strong reaction to Side Show, I am confident that no matter how much I might enjoy On the Town on Broadway, it will not match my attitude that Side Show is one of the best shows I've seen years!

Gee, you sound a little overly defensive, Howard. I agree that if you really LOVED Side Show that much, you may not like any other show as much. It was only the idea that you seemed to be "giving the nod" to one Broadway production over another specific one, even though you've only seen one of them. Having seen the "seed" or "concept" production that the current Broadway production was based on is really not the same as seeing the production itself. But if you didn't like the "concept" production and thought the 1942 show is dated, well there's no arguing with that, and it is likely you wouldn't like the the current one either. Fair enough? I was only speaking as a person who has seen BOTH current productions, but I certainly didn't mean to suggest my favorite of the two would be the same as everyone else's.

Further comment would be superfluous!

And now the sad news. Side Show will close on January 4. So hurry to see it if you can.

But want something rather bizarre? Side Show is based on the lives of the famous Hilton Sisters, a pair of conjoined twins. They died on >>January 4, 1969>January 4, 1998>January 4, 2015

How very sad that such a wonderful show will be closing after such a short run. I guess there aren't enough serious theatergoers who'll go to a good show even if it doesn't have a big star in the lead. Of course, the fact that it has a serious theme probably hurt as well. So sad.

It's even sadder for me when I recall how much the audience at the performance I saw were so obviously thrilled with the production and reacted with a spontaneous standing ovation, the likes of which I rarely seen in all my years of theatergoing.
