Breckenridge Ski Trip Report

Just returned from a terrific ski trip at Breckenridge. This was our first time there but won't be our last. Unbelievable snow this year. Snowed every day for at least part of each day. Sometimes tough with visibility, but man, the powder was great. I thought the signage on the slopes was excellent compared to many other resorts. Our Breckenridge experience was excellent.

Lodging: Stayed at Main Street Station. Booked it through http://www.snow.com. Nice place, relatively new, close to Quicksilver lift (walk across Maggie Pond). DON'T, I repeat, DON'T take a room right on Main Street, as there are several bars across the way with outdoor patios, and even on below zero nights there was a lot of racket/loud noise and music until 2 AM, as well as street noise from highway 9. Be sure and get a room facing inside the courtyard or the slopes. If you are mainly 'blues' (or above) skier, it might be slightly more convenient to stay at lodging near the Beaver Run or Peak 8 base lifts.

Dining: In general, not as outrageous pricing as I've seen at other resort areas. Giampietro -- excellent and humongous calzones, good pasta and pizza. Little seating area and no reservations, but you can leave your name and walk around the shops in the area, and they will call you (if you have cell #). Breckenridge Brewery -- excellent meals, great service, good value. Rasta Pasta -- very spicy pasta dishes. Blue Moose -- palatable, but unremarkable breakfasts. We stopped at the City Market and got deli sandwiches to take up for lunch on the mountain. The food at "The Maggie" was decent but pricey, as expected.
If you drive from Denver, do yourself a favor and stop on the way at Georgetown for breakfast/brunch at The Happy Cooker. Excellent.

Trails: Blues....favorites (in no particular order)Upper Lehman [if it's groomed], Briar Rose, Monte Cristo, Lincoln Meadows, Pioneer, Cashier. Peak 7 was a lot of fun.

I forgot to mention we used Blue River Sports in Breckenridge for ski rental, and they were very efficient, helpful, and the equipment was nice and in good condition. I would recommend them. If you reserve in advance via the internet, you can save some money.

Awesome! We really love to ski Breck, too, and will be there in two weeks--can't wait! Thanks for the report!

Ann Marie C, I just wanted to say hi. I'm Ann Marie W! Seems we like some of the same stuff!

I'm going to Copper in a few weeks. I was in Aspen at Christmas and agree that the snow is the best I've seen.

We've had 2 feet of snow in the last 7 days. And it's not stopping. All that rain on the West Coast has translated into snow for us.

ha! Hi AnnMarie W! I was in Aspen for the first time in August--loved it! I've been checking the web cams at Beaver Run for weeks now and seeing a lot of snow! Glad you're enjoying a great ski season!
