Branson: Big Cedar, Chateau on the Lake, or Hilton in town?

Decisions, decisions.... a friend and I are meeting in Branson later this month for a girlfriends getaway. We want to do some shopping, dining, indulge in some spa treatments, see a couple of shows... but we can't decide where to stay. Would I really use the steam, sauna and hot tub at the Chateau spa that much? would it be better to be in town? is Big Cedar too big? The tripadvisor reviews for Chateau were inconsistent... I trust Fodorites... what do you say?

In march, not much is going on in Branson. A lot of the shows will be closed. The Haygoods are our favorite show and they are open most of the year. Most of the shows and even some hotels are closed Jan, Feb, March. I have seen the Haygoods probably 20+ times. The youngest member is now 17. The first time I saw him, he was on stage playing a fiddle in diapers.

I've stayed at both Chateau on the Lake and the Hilton. While the COTL is a very nice property, it is isolated and off the beaten track. That being said, I prefer the Hilton as it's on the new "landing", there's shops/restaurants and entertainment all within walking distance. The shows are just a short drive away. If you rent a car, take a drive out by the lake, it is really pretty and there's good hiking nearby.

Stayed at the Hilton last time we were in Branson. It is well-located for the landing area as well as the traditional downtown area (both are within easy walking distance as has been pointed out). I personally wouldn't stay anywhere else but that's as much a personal thing as anything else.

thanks for your suggestions -- we have decided to stay at COTL this time and check out the other two properties for future getaways.

Owlwoman -- how long does it take to get from COTL to the Branson Landing?

We are planning on going to the Dueling Piano Bar on Saturday night, shopping at Branson landing and Chinese acrobats on Sunday, spa day on Monday, Tuesday ?

Anyone been to the Piano Bar?
