Boston's Scooper Bowl - worth the trip?
Boston's Scooper Bowl (Ice Cream festival for charity) is June 7-9, 2005 - anyone been in years past? If so, is it worth trying to get my first trip to Boston to overlap with the festival? Or is there a better time of year to go (and save the ice cream orgy for another time)?

Boston is always an ice cream orgy. Best ice cream on the planet. Those Patriot-loving fools are probably standing in line for ice cream right now, in the middle of the -20 degree blizzard. Herrell's, Toscanini's, JP Licks, Richardsons..........the Boston area is ice cream utopia.
The Scooper Bowl is not worth planning a trip around. While it's nice to support the charities, it's mostly Breyers/Brighams/Ben 'n Jerry's type ho-hum ice creams.

While the ice cream thing is fun, I certainly would not plan a trip around it. It is merely a one-price eat-a-lot-of-ice-cream thing, sometimes with long lines. Not a festival in the sense that other cities have a theme-oriented few days with assorted events and attractions. It is just a lot of ice cream in one place.
That said, early June is a great time to visit Boston. Just don't make this out to be more than it is.
Not sure what the Boston and ice cream connection is. Read sometime ago that we eat more ice cream per person than any other city. Might have something with the mammal need to overeat and then hibernate in the winter.

Since June is a great time to visit Boston, you may as well come... But the Scooper Bowl really isn't worth planning a whole trip around, unless you REALLY love ice cream! I went last year, and while it was yummy, they offered mostly nationally-known brands in fairly basic flavors. (I mean, how many different kinds of 'vanilla' can you eat in one day?) But again, you'll find tons of things to do here in June, so you probably won't even have time for the Scooper Bowl anyway!
