Hi--
Footloose is coming soon, as is Joseph and the Technicolor dreamcoat. Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse is fun.
Stomp is here now, but I'm not sure for how much longer.
Check out www.boston.com You should be able to find some info there.
Have fun!

my (admittedly biased)advice is not to waste time in boston seeing a show that is only the road cast of a NY show. go to NY to see the "real" cast, and to see these shows in their original locations, be it the village for blue man group or a small intimate b-way theatre for the others. while in boston, use your evenings to do things you can only do in boston, eat dinner on newbury street and people watch, go to the north end for gelato and cappucino, there are lots of options that will give you a feel for the city of boston which is soo great, as opposed to a reconstituted NY experience.

I mostly agree with Edie, you should look for a more genuine Boston experience, the road shows are really not that great. Boston is a great center for classical music, with tons of options. You might try to see the Boston Ballet, or the Boston Symphony, Boston Early Music, or one of the many other possibilities. Or check out what is playing at the American Repertory Theater (The ART) in Cambridge. I think the most interesting plays are usually there. www.boston.com can give you dates for this.

The points made above against seeing the Broadway Wannabee shows are good ones. One exception may be the Blue Man Group. Even though this show originated in NYC, it has been running at the same theater in Boston for YEARS, and has developed an identity as a Boston show. I've seen it twice and thoroughly enjoyed it, although it is not traditional theater (maybe that's why I enjoyed it!) I heard that the production company for this show actually purchased the theater (I think it's the Charles theater).
Anyhow, theater is generally expensive and I would sooner spend the money on a great dinner. But the original post asked about theater. Another seasonal favorite is the local production of The Nutcracker. Very popular locally, although I haven't been.
