Boston Summer Sights

We will be in Boston during the early part of July for 3 or 4 days. I have reservations at Marriott's Custom House. Can anyone tell me anything about this property? I am also looking for any ideas for must do activities and things to see in and around Boston without a car.

Do you mean the Marriott Long Wharf? If so, this is a beautiful hotel, well located harborside. Lots of sights and attractions are within walking distance, including Faneuil Hall Marketplace, and the trolley tours and harbor cruises, which are great fun, start nearby. You'll find a wealth of brochures in the lobby for things to do and see. Or, you could read a tour guide before you leave.

The Marriott Custom House is beautiful! Great choice of accomodations. The Marriott Long Wharf is a different hotel, but equally nice. The Custom House is located right at Quincy Market.
I would suggest taking a Duck Tour while in Boston (a tour on a boat/car contraption!). If you are her for the 4th, be sure to check out the fireworks along the Charles! There is lots to do in Boston in the summer--I'm sure you'll have a great time!

For heaven's sake - you can build your own tour guide within this website or just go to your local bookstore and buy a $10 tour guide. In the alternative, there will be a multitude of tourist brochures in the lobby of your hotel, or you could even wander over to the Tourist Information booth on the Boston Common.

There are so many terrific things to do in Boston during the summer and the Custom House is a great place to be for a homebase. Definately cross the Charles River and visit Harvard Sq. in the evening - there are always lots of people out walking around as well as street musicians and performers. Newbury St. is a great place to do some shopping and eat outside at one of the MANY restaurants that have outdoor patios. You can walk the Freedom Trail, visit the North End, which is the Italian section of the city where there are often festivals on the weekends, or take a whale watch cruise from down on the waterfront (really fun!!). The Boston Pops play outside on the Charles River at the Esplanade on the 4th followed by fireworks, but to get a good seat you need to spend most of the day there (about 1/2 million people go) - don't waste your whole day there when there's so much else to do - the Pops play several days for free on the Esplanade around the 4th - go the day before and enjoy the fireworks from elsewhere on the 4th. We also have a great Museum of Science if the weather isn't great. Also, if you have a car you'll be only 45 minutes away from some absolutely beautiful beaches on the North Shore.

Have Fun!!
