Boston Restaurants- seafood
We will be in Boston for a week and would like a recommendation on a restaurant for great seafood. We have children- 8,12,15. Prefer a non chain. Doesn't need to be fancy but a fun atmosphere. Thanks.

Durgin Park at the "Market" would be good, also Legal Seafood has several locations in Boston, you might want to try the one by the Pru Center.
If you have a car and are there soon, head up to Revere to Kelly's for the best clams and lobster rolls and roast beef sandwiches. I think Kelly's was named one of the top 5 sandwiches spots in the US. It's also right ON Revere beach, so the kids can have fun on the beach, make it a nice picnic.
Have a great time Boston is fun!!!

Barking Crab on the waterfront
Summershack near Boyleson and Mass ave.
King Fish Hall - a Todd English place in Faneul Hall.
And I agree, though don't know about the food...Durgin Park is a tourist must.
Stay away from the NoName......unless you've heard that things have improved in the passed decade.
Legal, although many love it is just a chain....maybe the one by Aquarium has to atmosphere that could be perfect.

I am also not a Durgin Park fan. And While I am picking on restaurants, I also think Union Oyster House (near Quincy Market/North End - the oldest continuously operating restaurant in US) is mediocre.
You asked for non-chain. Legal Seafoods is now a chain - but I still think it has excellent fish. Summer Shack is becoming a local chain - with a Boston, Cambridge and Copnnecticut location. I prefer it to Legal Seafood, especially original Cambridge location - very easy to get to on Red Line of MBTA at Alewife stop.
Definitely a fun atmosphere and very informal. Jasper White, chef/owner used to work at some snooty Boston restaurant (forget name) and then had kids and wanted to open a place where everyone could feel comfortable. Huge indoor lobster tanks, menu specials on chalkboard. Not inexpensive, but excellent. If you are into raw oysters, be sure to get some there as they always have several varieties and you can sample from several waters.

Does anybody remember the restaurant out on one of the piers called "No Name Seafood"? It used to have these HUGE LONG lines. We used to eat there until one night we saw thousands (no, seriously, it was thousands)of rats outside of it near some dumpsters. I assume it's gone now? (We left Boston in ~1985).

Sadly whether I've become more sophisticated or not No Name is worse than a tourist trap...yes, they did have long lines.. Last year we went and except for the chowder it was awful. Can't agree about Skipjacks..see children there all the time.. and the prices are reasonable (Skipjacks is o Claredon Street, opposite Copley Square, diagonal to the John Hancock and across from the TrinityChurch.. They have a GREAT jazz brunch on sundays...lots of families.. Don't even thnk of Pier Four...overpriced..

We ate at Legal in the Prudential Center- there was a huge graduation group of us...food was FABULOUS!!
Yes, it is a chain but it was started in Boston..
The clam chowder is worth writing home for---you can stand a spoon up in it as there is so much cream and clams!
Their tuna was terrific! as was Sea Bass....and it is perfect to take kids as it really does not break the bank.
