boston - newbury guest house
hello. first trip to boston next summer and plan on staying at the newbury guest house. for anyone who has stayed there, i have a couple of questions. i am travelling alone and will be there for 3 nights. when i made the reservations, she suggested that since i'm there for 3 nights, i'd be more comfortable in their midsize room rather then their smaller "best value room". it is $20/more per night. i am on a tight budget but don't want to be too cramped. is it worth (in your opinion) the extra $20/night to get the larger room?
also, the front rooms would enjoy the view of newbury street and people watching but she said it can be a loud street. i enjoy people watching but also want to get a sound sleep. would you get the front or back rooms?
thanks.

If you want to save 60 bucks, go for the value room, they are small but not "cramped".
The front rooms are on a busy street with lots of shops and restaurants, so it depends on what time you go to bed. After midnight it really quiets down.

They have a small patio facing the street. Go there to people watch and opt for a back room to get some sleep. Great place and I think you can find better ways to spend the $60 if you are on a budget.

You're in a great location and places close at 1am so you won't have a late noise problem and of cource, in summer it's worse because of the outside cafes that generate most of the noise. It's a brick building so noise should not be that bad. I lived on the street in the next block for many years.

I stayed at the Newbury Guest House this spring and loved it. The rooms are cozy but not incredibly small, and the high ceilings make them feel more spacious. We were two in our room and never felt cramped at all. I can't see how the front rooms could be all that loud-- Newbury St. isn't all that noisy, and it does get nice and quiet after midnight.
People-watching is best done from a sidewalk table at a café, or the front parlor at the Guest House. You're perfectly located, front or back, so I'd save the money, get the best value room and enjoy Boston.
