Boston-Need weather/temp. Info from Locals

This will be my 1st time going to Boston in mid-June through the end. I really want to get an idea of what the weather and temperature will be like, but surfing on-line I get everything from low 70's to high 80's.

I guess it is time to ask people who actually live there!

TIA!!!

Unfortunately your info is correct! There is no way to tell. As the saying goes for New England weather..if you don't like it, wait a minute and it will change. Best suggestion is to bring light layers and some sort of rain gear.

Most day times will be between 70-80
evenings 60-70

You could catch a 50 or a 90.

It is not uncommon for Boston's temperatures to vary by 40 degrees over the course of 24 hours, nor for one day's high to be 20 degrees lower than yesterday's, nor for a single day to feature both brilliant cloudless skies and raging downpours. Bring layers.

I'd have thought there would be a wider range. I have worn a heavy sweater on July 4 (rare) and been running around in shorts by the end of May.

Not a usually rainy time of year - I would consider it the most likely time of year for perfect weather.

Actually, June can be quite rainy, last year the last week of June it rained almost everyday.

Wallace, your best bet is to wait until the last minute to pack, just consult weather.com before you go.

I can say with confidence that it probably won't snow.

I can say with confidence the weather.com will be inaccurate.

For your entertainment, log into weather.com's forecast for Boston in the early morning, take note of its predictions for that afternoon, then log on again at noontime and see how much the forecast has changed in just a few hours! A long-range forecast is often just a best-guess based on historic averages.

Also, the temperature in the Boston area can vary by 15 degrees at any given moment, depending on how far you are from the water. By mid-June, the daily high afernoon temperature inland (e.g., Worcester, Lexington) can be 10 or 15 degrees higher than in Boston or elsewhere on the shore.

You could also check the forecast just before you go at boston.com, and one (or more) of the local news station's sites for good measure (I'm a channel 7 - NBC affiliate - weather fan, although it's just not the same without Todd). What everyone else said is exactly right, it varies - a lot. I remember a trivia question on the news last year about whether there was a record of any snow in June and I believe (but am not certain) that the answer was no. May on the other hand . . . .

For historic averages, my favorite site is wunderground.com. Here's a link for last June, which also shows the historic averages for each day in June.

As the calendar shows, the average daily high for June 12-18 is 76 or 77 degrees, but last year the 7 daily high temps were 89, 90, 80, 54, 57, 65, and 63. Not a single one in the 70s at all! Welcome to Boston!

I agree with Anon, that weather.com does a horrible job with Boston weather reports.
W&G, if you post here shortly before you leave, I'd be happy to give you the rundown on the local forecasts.

that said, what decisions do you really need to make? Pack a lightweight rainjacket, and a light sweater. You can wear sandals if you like. I know my co-workers will be wearing shorts by then, but I would pack slacks. You won't need wool anything. Short sleeves will be fine, unless you tend to get cold easily.

It probably won't be brutally hot, and it won't be cold. how much more precise do you need the report to be?

I would add, that if you plan on being on the water, like taking a whalewatch or PTown cruise, you will definitely want a sweater. And if you are headed out to the Berkshires, it can get pretty chilly in the evenings even at the 4th of July.

that last response is the most you will get for june in boston. sweater and windbreaker for coastal or coastal river forays (at least you won't need hat and gloves), and a fleece-type pullover or zip up or fleece-lined light weight jacket for when the shadows start to fall in the late afternoon and it starts cooling off. this will be true even if it has been 80 during the day. steamy hot evenings do occur, but you should cover all your bases. the weather is never dull anywhere in new england.
