Flying into Boston this summer. Will not rent a car. Hotel suggestions - first priority would be one that is convenient to sights on Freedom trail.

How convenient is transportation from airport to city?

We loved the Marriott Long Wharf. It's in a great location right on the water and next to the blue T line. If you stay there, be sure to request a water view. We found the T to be really convenient and easy to use. Freedom Trail was really convenient to get to, and we could walk to the North End for Italian food.

A free bus at the airport will bring you to the subway which (going inbound) will bring you downtown. There is also a silver line that goes downtown, once you choose your hotel, call them and find out which line is closest.
Non-rush hour, about a 20 minute trip.

There are many hotels along the freedom trail, gives us an idea of what price range and how many traveling.

You are smart to not rent a car.

Just myself and my 13 year old grandson.

We want safe area - obviously- convenient to walk to places or catch public transportation.

In Chicago we spend between $130-$175 - so would expect that to be the range. Even though I don't know what to expect for price range in June 2008.

We had a little bit of sticker shock looking at Boston hotel prices; you might try priceline or one of those sites to get a better deal.

sticker Shock was what we experienced for Boston too and I'm from Southern California, where everything is expensive..
I found the Westin Waterfront Boston, next to the convention center to be the best and the cheapest.. 4* with the heavenly beds and great linens and the views of the city were wonderful.
$229 on Expedia and the hotel is one year old, across from the T and a straight shot about 10 minutes to walk downtown which you don't even want to try and drive in downtown Boston..crazy!
Love Boston..it is the best!
