We will arrive in Boston on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 24th and will be leaving for NH on the 28th. We will be staying at the Parker House. Seeing that Boston is a cosmopolitan area, are there any dress codes that we should be aware of. We're from SW Florida and we tend to be a little laid back down here. Would hate to show up at one of the hotels for dinner and not be dressed correctly - either dressed up or down.

Boston is fairly laid back as well. East coast dressy casual is a good description. Khaki's and a golf shirt for guys will take you 99% of the places you will dine at night. Skirt and tanktop or some shirt and sandals will work for women.

Summer in Boston can be hot, as hot as you're used to at home. Occassionally it can go the other way, but it's been 90-100 degrees for a few weeks here.

Last recommendation--it's a walking city. Comfortable feet, even for dinner, is important!

Hey, it's a university town, among other things. So people can get a little student-y or a little tweedy - somewhat subdued colors, too. What would tip us off that you were from Florida would be pastels or bright colors -- as in bright yellow slacks. On the other hand, we are certainly glad to get your tourist dollars, so wear what's comfortable.

Except for the fanciest restarants (where reservations are essential and you can inquire when phoning to reserved), casual is just fine. You'll see anything and everything in hotel dining rooms. We've made the mistake of changing for dinner, only to find those at the table next to us dressed in shorts. Exceptions would be the main dining rooms of 4* or more hotels, such as Le Meridien, Boston Harbor Hotel, etc. Be advised, though, that no matter how hot it is outdoors, most places have their AC turned to freezing! So, bring a sweater if you're wearing a summer dress or top!

We have had over five days of oppressive heat over 90 degrees and it is expected to last until Monday or Tuesday. I have found a/c in shops and restaurants on the warm side.. I would ifyou were going to an upscale restaurant to wear something sophisticated.. otherwise casual wear would be fine..

Thanks for all of the dress tips and ideas. Most of what's in my closet will work nicely.
My husband will be heartbroken to know that he won't be able to take his bright yellow shorts and suspenders. His black nylon socks would have been such a nice touch with the tennis shoes!!!
Just hoping that the temps start to drop. Really looking forward to some cooler weather.
