Boston Bound

My fiance and I are thinking about going to Boston
for our honeymoon. We live in Nova Scotia, Canada and will be married on New Years Eve '98. We're thinking of taking the train. Any suggestions? What's nice in Boston at that time of year? Is a long train ride nice? Thanks!

I'm not sure how a train ride to Boston is but it will get you into a convient location in Boston. While there you will not have a hard time finding things to do. Plenty of good restaurants and night life. Take a trolley ride around the City, it the best way to get around. It cost around $14 each and you and get off and on. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy some good Itlian food in the North End, it you like museums, we've got them!
p.s. congratulation!

If you don't mind crowds and want to brave the cold, Boston organizes an event called "First Night" every New Year's Eve. You can walk to "cultural" events scheduled all over the city, plays, music, bands, ect. Also, there's a good book called "Romantic weekends in Boston", that has a lot of really great ideas and information on where to stay and what to do. I don't remember the name of the author, but it's a small paperback book. Congratulations, and have fun!

Piers: As a lifelong train buff, I can think of no better way to get into Boston. Get a 3-day "T" pass and forget about renting a car; subways get you just about anywhere. Good places to eat are Legal Sea Foods, Turner Fisheries in the Westin Hotel, and anywhere in the North End. Boston Park Plaza Hotel is close to Common, Public Garden, "T" and Newberry Street. Hike the Freedom Trail to learn about Yanks' battle for independence, visit Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, shop at Filene's Basement, and take the "T" to the JFK Library and Museum of Fine Arts.

All the above great ideas:
Yes to the "T" in Boston. Only way to get around for little $$
Christian Science to the "Mapparium" Beautiful and FREE
First Night is good but you have to be here to the 31st to see it. Are you married in Nova Scotia or USA.
Freedom trail very good - FREE WALK
Quincy Market very good - FREE, but pay for food.
Aquarium. I do not like
Museum of Science very good
North End nice walk and great Italian Food

if I think of more I'll let you know.... congrats

Highly recommend that you book your accomodations through www.180096hotel.com. If available, book at the Midtown Hotel. There's a subway stop right on the corner. And, you'll be able to go all over (and to Cambridge) on the subway. The Midtown is also within walking distance of the Boston Common, Public Gardens, Copley Square, Newbury Street, and the Theatre District. It's not fancy, but a very, very nice place to stay - and you can't beat the rates at this website (we use it all the time). Be sure to see what shows will be in town during your visit. There's a ticket booth at Copley Square called "Bostix" where you can purchase left over tickets at half price the same day of the show. You may or not have any luck there this time of year, but definitely worth a try. There's lots to see and do in Boston - even in winter. Pick up an Access Guide to Boston and review it ahead of time to see what appeals to you. The Christmas lights and decorations will be gorgeous, and with any luck, there will be just enough snow to make everything really beautiful!
