Boston & Cape Cod
Hi
I'm travelling to Boston and Cape Cod the end of May beginning of June. I have 3 boys (ages 6, 3 & 1), we are spending 3 days in Boston and 11 in Falmouth. Could anyone please give us suggestions on what to do and also child friendly places to eat.
Also what can we expect the weather to be like.
Many thanks

Weather could be almost anything - end of May often brings in raw and annoying fog over the Cape, especially in AM. If you are lucky, could be beach weather, but I wouldn't count on it - more likely to be high 60s/low 70s. (Sorry, don't know conversion to Celsius). Still, while not swimming weather, there are some lovely beaches your kids would love to play on.
Memorial Day weekend is last full weekend in May, and there are often parades or other special events.

On the way from Boston to Falmouth, stop at Edaville Railroad in Carver, MA. Perfect for boys your age.

Boston has a really good Children's Museum. Your kids might also enjoy visiting the Aquarium. The Science Museum has a lot of hands-on activities which the two older ones might like. A ride on the swan boats in the Public Garden in Boston would be fun, too - get a copy of Robert McClosky's classic children's story book, "Make Way For Ducklings" for them to read and see the pictures - the swan boats figure prominently in the story. You can see the bronze statues of Mrs.Duck and her ducklings in the northeast corner of the Public Garden; kids seem to get a kick out of them.

11 days in Falmouth - you will get to know the Cape quite well! I would assume you are renting a car. There is a very beautiful natural area on the bay side in North Eastham, I believe it's the Rachel Carson Bird Sanctuary. This was always one of our children's favorite spots - hundreds of acres of beach, dunes, and forest for children to explore. It is especially fun at low tide, when the kids can walk for miles in the sand flats, exploring for fiddler crabs, shells, baby fish, etc. As mentioned above, the weather is still marginal this early, and the water will definitely be on the cool side. The Falmouth area has some of the warmest water on the Cape, however. You will probably want to do a day trip to Martha's Vinyard - Falmouth has the quickest and easiest boat service to the Vinyard (not a car ferry however). I don't know if you would consider renting bicycles, but this is the best way to explore the Vinyard. Oak Bluffs is far more interesting to youngsters than Vinyard Haven. Travelling from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown passes some of the nicest, children safe beaches in New England. Back on the Cape, there are many different towns to explore - everything from the commercialized malls of Hyannis, to the dunes and rustic quiet of Truro. Taking a whale watch excursion from Provencetown is unforgettable. Provencetown itself is a fun town to explore - almost European with it's winding streets and quaint buildings.
One other spot in Boston that wasn't mentioned is the observatory at the top of the Prudential center - a great spot for childern, especially on a clear day.
