Boston
Hi,
We are staying in Boston for only one night in August and would like a hotel recommendation that is located near the freedom trail and the red line subway. We have two kids ages 8 & 11. We are not opposed to a little walking to get where we need to be.
Thanks!
Judy

Off the top of my head I can think of the following hotels:
Omni Parker House meets the location criteria perfectly as it is on the Freedom Trail and 1 block from Park St stop of Red Line.
Hyatt Financial is 1 block from Downtown Crossing stop of Red Line and also about 1-2 blocks from start of Freedom Trail (Boston Common).
Ritz is also near Common and Park St stop.
Bostonian - next to Quincy Market and close to Freedom Trail - further from Red Line.

Not sure why you want to be near the Red Line specifically... it's not that difficult to change lines on the T anyway.
Near Park Street station (Red and Green lines) you have Omni Parker House as mentioned above, Nine Zero on Beacon Hill, and XV Beacon.
Near Downtown Crossing station (Red and Orange lines) you have Hyatt Regency and Ritz-Carlton.
Near South Station (Red and Silver lines) you have Intercontinental.
You'll have many more options if you don't have to be right next to a Red Line Station. Eg, dozens of hotels in the Faneuil Hall/Aquarium area (Green Line Govt Center station or Blue Line Aquarium station); and dozens in the Back Bay area (Green Line Boylston, Arlington, Copley stations).

The Marriott Long Wharf is directly on the water, it is direcftly on the Blue Line (station literally outside the door) with direct service to the airport and connections to the Red Line through the Green Line at Government Center, and is within walking distance of many places to eat, from familiar mall brands at Quincy Market to local favorites like Legal Seafood and Sel de la Terre across the street to the Italian restaurants in the North End.
I loathe Marriotts on principle, but this is a great location for people with kids.
For a family friendly meal, the Boston Sail Loft, just across Christopher Columbus park has had pretty much the same burgers-and-seafood menu since about 1981, with water views.
